Hello everyone,

I'm new to post here but have been lurking for a few months now. Next summer I'll be moving from the US to Mauritania. After consider a slew of different vehicles (4Runner, Tundra, unlimited rubicon, Ram 2500 Cummings etc), I have concluded that the LC200 is the vehicle that most closely meets my requirements. I actually presented my list of vehicle considerations along with my personal requirements on a few Reddit posts. I was surprised by the frequent LC200 recommendations I received. This helped convince me that the LC200 was the right vehicle.

I plan to modify my future purchase. I will be living in Nouakchott. This is a tough third world city on the Atlantic coast and smack dab in the Saharan desert. The lc200 will be my dd. I don't have overlanding plans but will go out on recreational desert excursions and frequent beach trips. My current modification plans are front and rear ARB bumpers, 2" lift with bigger more aggressive tires, and lighting upgrades, maybe also a snorkel. I'll have around a 10k budget for mods though I'd prefer to spend way less if possible. I will have to have a shop do 90% of the work as all my tools will be shipping out. That and I don't have a garage.

Finally, I have been scouring the net for the perfect vehicle. The tip top of my budget is 50k. I can't import anything older than 8 years into Mauritania. So I do have age limitations. I'm currently looking at 2010+ land cruisers. Recently, I stumbled upon what seems to be a pretty good deal. It is a red 2010 LC200 with 34k miles. It looks to be in very good condition. I'm not keen on the red color. I'm more of a white, black, grey kind of guy. The red is growing on me.
I will have to purchase site unseen, but will have a mother-in-law do a visual and test drive for me. She can only provide me with purely aesthetic feedback not technical feedback. They are asking a non negotiable price of $44,000.

Let this post serve as an introduction to me. I would also appreciate feedback on the various topics I raised within the text.

Mauretania is on my wishlist, especially Richat, thought about it this year when I was as close as 3500 kilometer calculated from Morocco.

And the shipyard: almost bought a ticket when England was towing the ships to open sea to sink them.

But there are some dealers, have you lived in such a country before because I don't like new cars or you must have proper protection.
My father would not use CD plates because it attracts attention you dont want?
If a government wont back you up you are just sitting at a police station telling them you had a nice Toyota.

I'm buying in the states and shipping to Mauritania. Not possible to buy in Africa because I need a car until I move.

Good to see there is a Toyota shop in Nouakchott

buy white or silver exterior with the lightest interior you can find. Mauritania is hot as hell...

I posted pictures of the one I'm considering.

Personally I would stay away from the 5.7L if you plan to ship to Africa.

The lack of support is the problem. I have to fly over to Africa (mostly West Africa) all the time to service/repair US spec and Lexus LX570. Also you have to take into consider the fuel quality of that area.

I'll be in Algeria next week or the week after and will revert what I see about the TLC options there.

Thanks for the input. I have access to clean gasoline. It actually US spec gas. Nouakchott has a Toyota dealership there. I do understand about the service issues. However, I am limited to taking a US spec vehicle. It just is not possible for me to buy there, and I can't import anything older than 8 years. So with these given limitations I chose the LC200. Is there a US spec vehicle that meets my specific limitations that you think would be better? also consider that it is a family vehicle need space for 2 car seats.

I might get a life-ban from ih8mud, but when you goto Africa and Middle East you will be amazed with the pure number of Hyundai/Kia that you see on the road here.

I have a kitted out jeep/and a pajero, but if I knew then what I know now, honestly i would have picked up a kia sportage or even renualt duster as a daily driver. Seems you can drive for days on a liter of fuel and parts are soooo cheap its honestly funny.

Im actually moving back to the US in 3 months (after being out for 10 yrs, I have a Stage One Landrover I was thinking of taking back, then other days im like "what the hell am i thinking" why not just buy something normal and never worry about it)

Sorry for the derail, but where will you be stationed when you return Kenn?

Moving to Conroe/Montgomery TX just north of Houston. 10yrs of getting blown up and shot at to many times I have decided to come back to the US for a yr or two. After that its either South America or Asia and start it all over again.

Just closing the deal on a Gun Shop/Shooting Range and might try and own up a vehicle modification shop next door. But looking at building Overland types (one of the reason I want to ship back the Land Rover Stage One as a show piece/display)
