I'm in the market for getting new steel rims for my 93 fzj 80 and replacing the stock rims. The owner before put BFG All-terrains sized LT285/ 75 R16 that are pretty much brand new. I'm confused on which size I need and the offset in order to replace the stock rims. any help would be much appreciated
These are OEM Toyota 16x8 steel wheels, P/N 42601-60361.
Please note that unless you're replacing a similar steel rim, you'll likely need new lugnuts to suit these. The ones typically supplied with the factory alloys won't work properly.
Your stock wheels are 16x8 with 4.5” back spacing. I would look for steel wheels in this size. There are a lot of options. What’s wrong with your stock wheels?

Offset is the distance between the wheel center line and wheel mounting surface. Back space is the distance between outside mounting surface of tire on wheel to center of wheel/tire. E.g. a 8 inch wheel with 4 inch back space has 0 offset. Offset can be positive or negative. E.g. an 8 inch wheel with 1 inch offset has 3 inches of back space. A 8 inch wheel with 5 inches of back space (deep dish!) has 1 inch negative off set.
I should add this explanation disregards the thickness of the wheel material at the mounting surface. The wheel I posted above really has a -12mm offset.
I'm running painted Tacoma steelies on mine with a 1.5" spacer, found em on eBay. I *think* they would fit without, but don't take my word for it as I run the spacer to make the tires are flush with the fender flares.
I have a used set of these for sale in excellent shape. 16x10s. May not help you specifically as I'll only accept local pick-up, but a few of us run this spec here.

You can see the differences between a couple different steel wheels here: Been lurking, time to start contributing, here's my beater project got some FJ Cruiser steelies and some pro-comps mounted up with same tires for comparison. No spacers anywhere. The Toyota rims will likely be inset too far for what I would consider good looks on a flared rig. I transferred the pro-comps over to my flared rig (a 94) and they fit perfectly.
Backspace is definitely off. Did a direct comparison with pics in above thread where you can see. If you want stock profile you will need spacers for sure. I had no rubbing with 315/70/17 though, and since I have no flares it looked pretty good and worked for me. I don’t think it would work with flares too well though.
Steel wheels are not an upgrade from a forged alloy wheel that weighs half as much. A steel wheel can be beaten back into shape (sometimes it works) if badly damaged on the trail but unless you are doing some hardcore rock crawling this will not be an issue and happens rarely. My 93 oem wheels have taken a lot of beating on rocks over the past five years and have given me no problems.
