Well my 46 is a daily driver. I can't afford a second car and I'm simply just not interested in new cars. So it must see winter use. But they only salt the highway in my area and I only use it 2 times or so per winter. This addition is really only intended to keep mud and snow from building up on top of the rear crossmember and in the light assemblies.

I also oil all the seams of my truck every year before winter hits. I mean every seam.....

I could see heavy oil wicking into all seams/cracks/etc-at least close to where you put it. Have read some of the other threads on here for the cosomoline type products and may try some time. I have one with a plow that's a battle wagon I've rebuilt the rear half out of 12/14ga steel and it still rusts faster than I (get to) fix it. Frame through-rebuilt-etc.

great regime and nice work ... I haven't drilled holes in my 40, but have in my DD (07 FJC) and oil it every year ... it seeps into the seams ... in my opinion, it works ... they rot from the inside out ...
