Hi I was wondering if anyone in the next week or two could spare an hour or so and look at a winch with me? I dont know much about winches, but I would really like to have one to haul people out of the ditch (myself sometimes included in this). I've been eyeing one on CL for a week now and the seller says no one has come by to look at it.
I know this is risky as someone could snatch it out from under me, but here's the link for the ad.

That's a good price for an 8274, IF it's not rusty and is in good working condition. They cost $1,600 and up new. An 8274 is quite a bit bigger than any planetary winch and will need a bumper/mounts made for it and not a planetary winch. Great winch though, I love mine.

If I was there at my place in NM I would be happy to go look at it with you, but alas I am in Texas at present.

Thanks for the offer though. I have an ARB winch bumper. According to their brochure, it works with the 8274 and a some warn 9000 lb winch. If any other winch could compare with the 8274's combined pull strength and speed then I would look at them too.

The seller claims that its in good working order but that it has the original wire rope, gear oil in the box and solenoids, which to me means, that the unit is due for a rebuild. Granted it might work right now, but I dont want it to fail out on the trail or when someone is stuck.

The 8274 fits right in an ARB bumper. That is a pretty clean 8274.
