Hey dudes, Looking for some input on this potential buy. Hopefully I posted this in the right thread. I've been back and forth with the seller of this 83 on ebay, he's reassured me there is very minimal rust and drivetrain is good just needs some carb/motor work to get running (which I dont mind doing at all). Seller seems like a straight shooter, original owner, nice honest guy. Im wondering about the rust beneath the passenger side rear-most window (looks broken). I'm just looking for a cruiser that needs mechanical work and very little body work. Any input would be appreciated. Seems like an OK price but I have to have it shipped and that will add a lot to the price.
Thanks
Sean

Based on a quick look through the pictures, I would run for the hills. There looks to be rust-a-plenty on that thing, which is starting to show through in the roof, cowl, and rear quarters. Much better options out there, but you might do yourself a big favour and up the budget a bit to get into something rust free. Tough to find rust-free at this price-point.

Prices for FJ60/62s have risen dramatically in the past couple of years. If you're shopping the bottom of the price spectrum, this is probably what you're going to find... Rust AND significant mechanical needs.
I wouldn't mess with it.

Too many red flags sounds like the general consensus. You know how you get that tunnel vision when you really want a cruiser and the flaws and problems are blurred or invisible.
I think youre right, up the price range and get out of the turds.
Thanks

Some additional $$$ to factor in. If you buy it at the asking price of $4500....its in Texas and you are in Virginia....so you either need to fly out there and try to drive it home...or ship it home. Shipping is going to be in the $800 - $1200 (my guess). If you try to drive it home it may or may not make it and a trip could go from a one way airline ticket and gas to all sorts of on the road expenses. The wiring is scary, the interior shredded, there is lots of rust poking out and who knows what is actually hiding.

Consider buying a plane ticket and going to look at it if you are seriously interested. $500 spent on a ticket might save you spending $4500 on something that needs 5 years of labor and $10,000 invested to make into a decent rig.
