hey everybody,

Just hoping to chat with the the owner of the lovely dark grey 2016 200 series with lift, wheels, and roof rack that can be seen in all the photos from the 200 group run in Ouray last month. Anybody know who that might be? Thanks.

Howdy, what's up?
Hey! Great looking ride!

Would you mind sharing some details?

Lift system?
Wheel/tire sizes?
Roof rack system?

Do you leave the roof rack on full time? Much compromise to daily drive quality?
I couldn't tell if you had factory roof rack under there, or can it be deleted by dealer?

Many thanks.

Suspension: The lift is the OME 2" lift kit with light springs in the front and medium springs in the back. I also got the SPG adjustable LCAs. It's a straightforward system and noticeably stiffer than the stock suspension. It does very well off road. If I had it to do over, I may think about an adjustable system like the BP-51.

Wheels and Tires: The wheels are Pro Comp 7032 in flat black. They're a relatively inexpensive wheel (I think they're cast). I had originally looked for Rock Warriors but couldn't get my hands on any. I'd probably go for a forged or machined wheel but it's not a big deal. I like the way they look. The tires are BFG K02 285/65/R18. The wheels have some significant offset and thus I needed to do quite a bit of fender trimming. Now that I've done the trimming, a taller tire would probably fit as well. The K02s are awesome.

Roof Rack: It's a Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform with the Backbone system. I had the platform from my previous vehicle. While the modularity of the platform is very convenient, I would not buy this system again. I'd go with a Gamiviti rack all the way and have even recently considered replacing the Rhino Rack with the Gamiviti. The central problem with the Pioneer + Backbone system is that the rails make it very cumbersome to manage the accessories on the rack.

I took the factory rack off myself but did run into some issues with the built-in mounting plates even though I carefully loosened each bolt. I ended up having to install nutserts in a few of the holes and it was quite a pain.

Where did you get your nutserts and what size were they?

Did you follow the Toyota manual for the removal?

I will be doing this job soon.

Thank you for the knowledge

I recall referencing the online 200 series service manual, but the removal was pretty easy/obvious. The trickiest part is removing the bolts from the mounts; I would advise being cautious during this step so that you don't damage or lose the built-in mounts. There are 8 mounts (4 on each side) and each mount uses 2 M8 bolts. I'd recommend breaking (barely loosening) all the bolts first and then work mount-by-mount. For each mount, back each bolt out a bit at a time. You'll be fine if you do that.

The issue I had was that one of the mounting plates must not have been installed correctly within the frame and fell down into the body once I removed both bolts. By some miracle, I was able to find and remove it as it had fallen behind the bottle jack. Instead of spending $250+ to have a body shop open up the headliner and reinstall, I just decided to use some rivet nuts.

I purchased rivet nuts from McMaster Carr (97467693). Hopefully you won't need any :)
