Hi SoCalers, last meeting we had a rare visit (as long as I've been a member at least) from an old club member who seemed to be the "parts guru" back in the day.

Anyway, I talkled briefly to him w/r to egr valves for the 2f straight six motor. that part has achieved the "unuptanium" status.

Knowing that I have a garaged (due to frozen egr valve) '87 fj60, I would like to pursue reaching out to him as he mentioned he "may" have one lying around.

any one have his contact info?

May the force be with you!

Don't know who you're referring to, perhaps Mark Algazy of Mark's Off Road? Anyway, you could call him to see if he has a good used EGR valve. Probably the only way you'll find one.

Fwiw, I have had some success with freeing up Frozen EGR valve by removing and soaking in PB blaster or similar penetrant for a few days. Then putting a vacuum on the top nipple until the diaphragm frees up

hmmm, interesting.

do you totally submerge the unit?

Also, I believe the cause is corrosion chips in the egr cooler up stream fromn egr (mounted on egr side and just below the egr valve on the 2f motor). as in my case, rigs that are super lighty used tends to corrode in that unit due to lack of heat to drive off water in exaust gases. water just sits there and corrodes. then when engine starts, chips get sucked up to the valve, lodge in sealing area, then there is your leak path.

Thanks for the mention Alf. I do have several of those. But I am out of the office until Monday.

Valve needs to be removed and repeatedly sprayed with PB Blaster or similar for a few days in every orifice. Then try working the valve by applying vac to the diaphragm nipple. If valve frees up and moves, then see if it holds vacuum to test that the diaphragm isn't perforated or leaky. I've never seen one with 'chips', just excessive soot and moisture corrosion.

If Mark has a good used one, I'd just buy that. These valves are hard to find and Kalifornia doesn't seem to care that they're almost unobtanium in working condition, now.

Either that or move to Montana. ;)

Hi Mark, i'm interested in a purchase of a working egr valve ('87 fj60). i'll call you monday.

btw: you may recall that I was your copilot on a run during cruise moab in '04. You tore down and rebuilt your carborator trail side as you felt a hesitation.

that was the same event that i witnessed an rear endo roll over of a 40. a marical that the 2 girls riding passengers did't get hurt. No seatbelts. both from steamboat i believe.
