Need some advice.

Looking at buying a 1 owner, 200 series, 2008, 100k miles. Everything is great except that the LC comes from a Northern state. Is this a lot of rust, and would it be a deal killer for you?

Thanks,

Steve

What's the KDSS screws look like? If that's good, I'd just spend some time with rust remover, primer, and a good enamel to clean the frame and axle housing up.

Oh, yea know I'd also check if there are any recalls on that VIN seeing as how you won't get anyone to replace them for free now. Things like the t-case causing vibration and faulty radiators the first couple years had.

Looks pretty good to me for 100k miles and being 8 or 9 years old.

Toyota's underbody corrosion protection is virtually non existent. One winter trip into the snow belt and could easily end up with that sort of surface rust on a brand new 200. Which that looks like all I am seeing in your pic's is a little underbody surface rust, nothing a rattle can of Rustolium flat black spay paint wont fix.

Fluid Film or Blaster Corrosion Stop (slightly better in my tests and available at Home Depot) are awesome and really the best way to go. Anything else you can apply will eventually fail and/or could just hide further corrosion under the application. Fluid Film/Corrosion Stop will create a self healing barrier between the metal and the air/water oxidizer preventing further corrosion. The only down side to these products is you only want to apply them to areas that you won't come in contact with since it will stain any clothing it touches. For example, you wouldn't want apply it all over your arb bumper then bump up against it. Additionally, you should reapply periodically especially where it will come in contact with heavy water flow for maximum protection.
