Currently using a pool service that my girlfriend has had for years. She just told me she pays north of $150 a month (weekly service) I thought that seemed high since he spends about 45 seconds in the backyard, per visit. He does provide chemicals and we would want to continue that. Any recommendations for a pool guy that any of you currently use, trust?

thx

If he's doing it in 45seconds a week, why don't you take it on yourself? I would bet that all he's doing is running a test strip to get a rough gauge on chemicals (strips are notoriously inaccurate), dropping a chlorine tab in the floater and collecting a check.

I manage our own pool at a cost of about $80-120/yr which covers chlorine tabs and muriatic acid for a straight chlorine pool (not saline electric chlorination). The pool buolder supplies free test kits of the reagent type, and its like chemistry lab every Sunday morning! Great info over at TroubleFreePool.com if you want to read up on "pool school" and those guys are very knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck,

Just out this lady, Home I'm actually going to see her today at lunch, one of my coworkers told me about her, she has a Master's in Chemical Engineering and all she does is pool chemistry, alledgely from my coworker he sprinkles her special formula in his pool once a month and walks away, and his pool stays perfect, I'll report more after I learn more. She also has a cool chlorine puck thing that sinks to be bottom till it needs more pucks and floats to the surface. My co-worker reports about $120 a month but well worth the worry free action. Also after looking at the site, she has a product to acid wash without draining the pool, which in my case is awesome!!

I should follow the LCP route and fill mine in. Since the kids are older I think the pool gets used maybe 3 times a year....

I handle my chemicals myself and really don't pay attention to how well I do it anymore. Water is clear is all I care about. Been over a year and half since anyone has used it unless you count the stray cats I've seen drink out of it. Haven't noticed any ill effects on the cats.:meh:
Since I plan to be out of town for summer from now on I need to look into draining it and parking it.

One thing I haven't heard mentioned about cost is the power to operate the pump. While fewer hours this time of year still need to run it.

I just saw this thread. I have a good friend of mine that owns a pool company. His rates are not bad. If you around like his info for a quote send me a message.
