I am in the market for a nice metal deck car hauler. I live in Texas. there is no shortage of trailer manufacturers here, but don't want to get ripped by some big high overhead outfit.

What I am looking for is a 20' metal deck, with 5200# axles. Electric brakes both axles. C-channel construction, with C-channel crossmembers spaced on 16" centers. Silver.

I have seen a few EBay auction from a place in Lone Oak, Texas. Teh name of the outfit is Texas Made Trailers. They are a manufacturing outfit, and by the looks of it, they do low volume to private party. Might be higher volume to other who buy "stacks". They have no website, but everything they have had on EBay "looks" really nice. The price is right for me as well.

Has anybody had any dealings with these guys, or know if they are any good?

Thanks guys.

I have actually heard good things about Texas Made. I would also recomend heading out to East Texas Way on I-20, maybe if you decide to attend the Halloween Lone Star Land Cruiser/TTR run at Gilmer, Texas and checking out Big-Tex Trailers and a little outfit south of Canton, Texas called Legend Trailers. They make EXTREMELY high quality trailers but are a smaller shop and are therefore a bit cheaper. The guy makes them all there. They say they do mainly goosenecks but I bet if you call them and talk to them they can really help you out. http://www.legendtrailer.com/

Hope this helps! :)

Excellent! Thanks for the data. Looking forward to being more mobile by putting this heavy beast on a hauler. She's a bit rough to be ridden long distances.

Call these people,http://www.kempnerequip.com/, first before calling anyone else. I have bought 2 trailers from them. My current on 16', 2-3500# 1 brake, new 6 ply tires, $1,384 drive out. It's a wood deck.

Just a note on metal decks:

Hot as anything in the summer. Nothing worse than climbing around on one on a Sunny August day!

Wet muddy tires like sliding on metal decks. Even wet tires like sliding off nice metal decks.

Get the idea that I hate metal decks. Keeping wooden ones treated isn't my idea of fun, either... but always thought a metal deck would be great... until getting burned and trying to load one when it was parked slightly off camber.

Good point about wet tires on metal decks. I have rust is more problamatic also.

I just fear having to maintain that dang wood. Don't want to replace it, treat it, etc.

One buddy of mine suggested possible getting that "fake" plastic wood to put down when the first set of stuff goes. Composite wood I think is what they call it. Kind of expensive, but would last longer than traditional lumber I think.
