as the title suggests...I'm having a difficult time locating a walk-in store that sells 24mm 6pt individual sockets.
I've tried every sears, adv auto, napa, fairfax auto, and even Rice. Anyone know of a place inbetween Manassas and Fairfax?
I haven't located a snapon truck yet...

thanks:steer:

I can go look to see if I have one you can borrow. I'll be in arlington all day everyday.....

I have one, but it is a deepwell impact socket. Give me a call at 208 space 596 space 88 00

You have tried getting a 15/16 right?

Dan

Most advance auto parts stores have gear wrench on the wall and have individual sockets in half inch drive stuff.

hmmm....hadnt even thought of 15/16. will try that today. I'm trying to change the oil in my diffs on the fj40 and the drain plugs are a bit marred.

I'll give you a call if all else fails. thanks for the offer to borrow a tool Dan

Yea, was in there the other day and they only had 12pt sockets up to 22mm then skip to 27mm or 28mm. They do sell impact sockets, but only as sets.

Mike Cole is a great Snap-On rep. He has a lot of my money and is based out of Oakton VA. There is also a Matco rep named Billy Creek off of 29 just west of Kamp Washington/Fairfax. I have contact info for both, PM me.

Access to the automotive knowledge that Mike has makes his tools a bargain. Hes a guru mechanic turned tool rep.

i found a 24mm 6pt socket at J.E. Rice in Manassas during lunch. Thanks for all the tips folks.

Stumbaugh, is that the same Snap-On rep info in the tool/resources sticky? I'll pm ya for more info on your tool guys for future projects.

now ditch the hex head drain plug and put back in an allen head drain plug....you won't regret it.

...but don't forget to continue to check for leaks, as I've found that these are still susceptible to being unscrewed by rocks. Just less so than the stock drain plugs.

These Toyota numbers may still be good:

Hex Drive diff plugs:
90341-18021 Plug w/magnet
90430-18008 Gasket, tranny/transfer
12157-10010 Gasket, diff plug

bummer...i just changed all my gear oil( and smell like it too). I had thought about switchin to hex...but didnt want to wait to find parts. will prob order some then switch em out. For folks that have been using them, do they have a tendency to strip out?

I've had more trouble with socket head plugs getting lose that with the standard hex head plugs. I ended up welding the diff drain plugs in and just remove a diff bolt or 2 when I need to drain.
