Looking at a 4runner

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on much. Just drivin' the FZJ80 and not much else.

So I started with the FJ62, loved it. Too much truck for the lady drivers in the fam.
Switched to a '94 FZJ80, love it. Still too big and fuel thirsty for my fam's taste.

So... Looking now at a '99 4runner LTD, 142K miles in western NC. Seems to be well maintained and not wheeled, but I don't think the timing belt has been changed on the 3.4.

Any idea how much this would cost? Could I do it myself?

Timing belts are relatively simple to replace and can usually been done in a weekend. I would maybe try and search the forum here, check the faq section in the 4runner tech section, and then maybe a few other forums, I am sure you can find a writeup on it.

Hey man - I just did the timing belt on the 3.4 in my 97 T100. I used this write-up and built the tool to hold the crank if you want to borrow it.
Toyota Maintenance: 3.4L V6 Timing Belt Replacement

I bought a timing belt + water pump kit off ebay for like $150 and it had everything I needed. Took about 6 hrs. Also a good opportunity to flush your cooling system since you have to drain it anyway.
