After a great deal on a GX470 fell through with a family member, I have been lurking around and reading about the LC and LX. Just found out the wife wants to stay with a smaller vehicle. Found this locally. Carfax shows decent maintenance schedule, but I haven't dug into it any further.

Anyone have any opinion on price and/or are there good year/bad year issues with the 4Runner?

Thanks for your input.

Mine is 2007 V6 that I purchased w/25k mi on it in 2009. It now has 107k on it. I love it and would recommend it to anyone. My only issues have been brake calipers that have to be replaced more often than they should. Otherwise, it's a beast and I've had no issues. With the V8, check to see that they replaced the timing belt.

Have a 2003 with the V8, 160K. It's been great—other than one CV axle and standard oil changes & upkeep, it's been zero maintenance. I've had no troubles at all with the brakes. I'd rather have the 2007—I can't turn traction control off, and I think the 2007 can.

I had a 2007 sport with leather, v6 no sunroof. I never had an issue with it. Good gas mileage, decent space. My mom has the same now, no issues either. No timing belt on the V6. A great vehicle for what it is. I'd consider another v6 if I needed one. V8 is probably a little safer, versatile day to day with the awd, if you drive sketchy roads at all.

LC/LX isn't that much bigger, yet substanily more vehicle. (And a lot more going on with AHC, lack of ability to upgrade audio if has NAV). From simplicity standpoint and drivabilty, 4runner by a mile

Get a V8, way better engine. Way different driving experience too.

I own a 2004 V6 and love the platform. For my next vehicle I will get a 2008-2009 4Runner or a 2006+ GX470. Here's what I'd look for if you're considering a 4Runner.
1) Make sure 4Lo will engage. The 4Lo actuators commonly seize up because of lack of use.
2) Get the 2006+ model. Those came with a 5 speed auto instead of 4 speed, Aux plug for the stereo, and side curtain air bags.
3) If getting a V8, check to see if the timing belt has been replaced, and be wary of cracked exhaust manifolds.
4) 2008+ come with a traction control off switch.
5) Some of the V8 models have rear air bags which suffer the same problems as the GX.

I personally think that the V6 has sufficient power, but I've never driven the V8 model.

I too thought V6 had good power. Then I drove a V8. I ended up in a 2007 GX and very happy. Like the lever to go to from H to L too.

I had a 03 with the 2UZ, totalled it, bought a 07 with 2UZ. Bullet proof reliability. I also drove the 4runner with the V6, hated it. Get the 2UZ.
