Bought this mustard one,
FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser 1977
I just want to be like Jim ;) Already have steelies for it, thanks Jim!

Plans- see how bad the body is, if alot of cancer I cant see, replace with Aqualu tub. Use the steelies I got from Jim with some 33X9.5 BFG Allterrains, get some Realsteel bows and a rear tailgate panel and the new tops that will be offered by Boston here on Mud and drive the s*** out of it. Come fall, paint it Capri blue.

Good score. Whats with the blue?!?!

I have a thing for the old Capri blue 40s, actually it's a sickness...... I like the Capri blue or Dune beige. My son wants it to look like his matchbox FJ40 (capri blue).

I do like Freeborn also, I will post some more photos (it's also proven red vehicles go faster). Got the 40 from California, the guy has owned it for the last 15 years. I have the summer to think about a color, maybe stay with mustard that way I can just shamlessly copy Jim's rig with Aqualu tub and soft top.

My FJ40 was mustard. And I think it's one of the best, if not THE best, color for a 40 series. Very cool. Looking forward to seeing pics.

If you do need any body panels or sheet metal parts, I highly recommend Oscar down in Atlanta with PACOL.

PACOL, LLC

I've seen his body panels and other parts first hand, along with his restoration work and they are top notch. Plus he was kind enough to help me diagnose a hard start problem when I went down there to pick up my then-new-to me FJ62.

Cool, Thanks Chitown, I have called Pacol about their tubs, but at 5600 for a 3/4 tub compared to 3200 for an Aqualu it's a hard choice. Still if I feel confident I might be able to save the orginal tub I will be going with Pacol panels. The ad is down which is good since I paid the guy, and all the pics I have is close ups of the rust areas and undercarriage. Let me see what I can find.

Looked damn clean!

Not a candidate for a body swap IMO.

I hope you are right 4rnr, I would love to keep it all steel if possible. But if the rust looks a little more cancerous, I will scrap the tub and go Aqualu. Going to be a bitch to paint I assume.....

Prep for aluminum wouldn't be any different than steel. A good coat of etch primer followed by epoxy primer would be my choice if that's what you were referring to.

Cool, I thought there might be more involved with the painting process. Thanks

The etching primer is an acid based primer designed to create the bond to the bare metal. There are metal prep solvants that would do the same but the etching primer is easy to apply and easy to confirm coverage. The epoxy primer would follow without any dry time so no extra sanding.

Geesh, I leave the state for two weeks and now I have a stalker and my cruiser has an evil twin! ;)

Good luck on the new 40. Aqualu also sells a tailgate with storage capability. Mine doesn't have that, but I think it could prove to be useful.

Do I really need to come home from Colorado today? :(

Don, are you going to have that truck in Illinois by this weekend so I can see it if I find a way to make it over to your place for your little shindig?

Naw, the truck won't be here till July actually, it's getting shipped to Orange45's shop to make sure she is in great working order. Hope you can stop by, everyone else intrested in coming feel free to drop on by, should be a good time.......
