Hey guys, I live in Oak Lawn, and have been looking for a FJ40 the last few months. I'm currently thinking about a basket case from down south but thought I should post on here first. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Looking for a stocker for weekend riding around town, I haven't done or thought of any off roading so the stocker the better. Back 96 when I was living in CA I fell in love with a awesome FJ40 I saw parked at San Diego zoo and till this day, can't get it out of my mind. Well thanks for the time, and drop me a line. -Don

Hey Don,

I spend a good majority of my life on 95th st... at work.

How much work do you want to do / can you do to repair/maintain the vehicle? Are you looking to restore or buy one all nice and shiney?

PM me if you want to grab lunch. My office is at 95th St and 54th Ave.

Jeep>fj40. Better MPG's, factory Ipod hookup, and you can get them in Yellow!!!

And you can get them with AC and power steering. You get legendary Jeep reliability. You get a giant aftermarket.

and you'll get the Jeep wave from the large and active Jeep community.

Chicks dig Jeeps. They don't know what a Land Cruiser is.

Buy a Land Cruiser and you'll end up sleeping with Tony.

Not to mention they are trail rated....Are Lang Cwusa's?.....I think not!

plus jeeps are all bad ass and they can go through ANYTHING......dude!!!

....and you get to wear Jeep hats, shirts, jackets, socks, underwear, while listening to your Jeep boom box, while working on your broken Dana 30 (cause you get it sooo hard) with your Jeep tool kit (made up of wrenches....not chop sticks).

Also a Jeep steering wheel isn't hitting you on the chin as you drive while banging your elbows on the door frame & center consul when you turn...all the while having your knees up at shoulder level & trying to shift gears without banging your knuckles into the dash....if you can even get to the shifter with your body so contorted

Purely speaking from a 6'1" 200# persons point of view

Other than that.....they look great sitting in a parking lot

Jeeps have torx bolts as well, the easiest fastner to remove, they wont strip out like those pesky bolts will on toyotas. Also with a jeep you get the reliability of having the same part held on with 4 diffrent size bolts, so it makes it harder for them to be reomoved, stolen, repaired, and replaced. Not that you would ever have to fix or replace anything because jeeps are bullet proof!!!

Naw, I think I will stick with the FJ40, I have not drove one but I haven't drove a Austin Healy and still want one also. Seriously, I have redone a couple of cars, 68 camaro 67 mustang fastback, before I'm handy enough with a wrench, not so much a welder. Bryan, I used to spend a lot of time on 95th (McMahons) but have not been ther a couple of weeks, I will look you up. My budget is around 10,000 but I wouldn't mind spending less and doing a little restoration. I was just up in the North Brook/Deerfield area today, man I wish I could of seen that FJ40. I am currently considering buying a basket case and putting it together myself. If I go this route I will on here looking for help all through the process, thanks- Don

Hi.i saw one for sale in northbrook.60062.It is blue an is behind gas station MARATON.Corner dundee road and skokie blvd.good luck. gabriel

The guy that owns it is my neighbor. It's a pretty clean truck. I believe it has a Chevy small block in it with dual exhaust and the like. Body looks good... sort of a metallic blue. Toyota factory fogs on a decent roof rack. Looks to have a small amount of lift.

I have been looking on ebay and CL and here and almost bought one from Cali but it ended up getting snatched up before I could get it. Anyone here a big FJ40 guru? I have a couple of questions and prospect I'm considering buying but want to know if I'm making a good choice. I'd appreciate bending someones ear, Happy Thanksgiving.- Don

I got some great advice from Chitown40 on it, I have called the guy, and he says he has everything to put it back together, just needs paint. Little worried about the power steering set up he has since he says it should be replaced and no longer has the orginal manuel steering box. Any ideas on this as a project?
