Just sold my VW guess I'm all in.....

:wrench: Hello, just stumbled across this funny thread. While I am no GURU at all I do have 2 pennies to throw in. I would definately say dont rush into it, take your time and shop around. I used a website called statewidelist.com to search the entire state of California for about a year before I found the perfect vehicle for me at the perfect price. The only thing is like previously stated you must search Land Cruiser Landcruiser and FJ40 to get the most results. Then even sometimes it may skip a nice FJ40 so i would go down the list one by one and search again and again. I did this like I said for about a year and found My 1970 Fj40 for 9500$ asking........got him down to 8000$ then when I got there he took me back up to 8500$ He must have saw my jaw dragging on the ground. Anyways I would just say that patience pays off. I have only seen about 4-5 great deals like this one over the last 15 months or so. So there it is my .02$ Ill include a pic so you can see what my 8500$ got me.

PS I sold my 93 VW Corrado for my Cruiser I feel you brother. Also I did used to live in IL Waukegan area worked on the Naval training Center for about a year. GOOD LUCK!!!! &&

Thanks for the advice 70Cruza and great FJ. Here are some blurry big foot pics I got of the truck I decided on but she needs a list of things to get her road worthy. But hey thats the fun learning experience right? Let me know what you think, there are a couple of werid things I saw (aprons have the early turn signals holes in them).

i had two over the years with that color. Love that look! enjoy ptting it back in shape and getting it road worthy. just remember. road worth for an fj is really a funny thing.
like gumby says, half or more of the pleasure in owning a cruiser is sitting in the garage looking at them.

 Ditto"

Love the color looks like its in pretty good shape too! Sometimes I just sit in my 40 for a couple hours just sitting there in the driveway and drinkin beers
Congrats on a nice 40!

Unless you are going for a total factory restore, it's pretty common to find some mismatched body panels and such. Around here you typically go for the ones with the least amount of rust that will fit with the tub you have.

Cool, doing the final "walk through" tomorrow. If all is well it should be in my garage leaking oil by lunch! Who wants ta come out and help me with my list of s*** to do? Have beer.

Just got back and passed on it. It was pretty solid but was needing more than I wanted to spend/do and was capable of. Let me know if you guys come across something, I will pay a finders fee. Thanks-

needing more than I wanted to spend/do

In the world of ~40 year old work trucks.....that is open to infinite interpretations.

I couldn't tell by the photos but the rear wheel wells were badly cut to take flares, which I did not want, and a buch of things ranging from door locks, gauge cluster, heater, suspension, to rusted sill needed some repair. The guy was super cool, and I'm sure it will sell quickly. I just really want a stock lookin truck and not worry about hanging rear quarters if I don't have to. I would of left there this morning with that FJ if the quarters were uncut. You guys were nice enough to have answered all of my questions through either PMs or on this thread, thanks, hope I didn't waste your time. I guess for once I will take my time looking and be a picky son of a bitch.

Dont be afraid to travel/have one shipped. The extra $ it costs to get the right truck the first time, is nothing compared to the time, headache, and $ spent getting a local/easy truck to what you want.

Your right! I was going to say apsoblutley right, but as you can see I can't spell it.

Search continues, although another major reason I didn't get it, is that to hang quarters on it I'm right back to the same amount for the basket case one. Still thinkin of a tripp to KY might be in order. Hell if I can put together Ikea crap, I can put that FJ back together.

Seriously, go look at the blue one in Northbrook at Dundee and Skokie Blvd. It's solid and stock (minus the engine conversion) but you might be happier with the upgraded motor anyway.

Prices are always negotiable depending on how bad they want to sell the truck.

Just buy Goebelers

Sent a PM to Goebler and will set up a time to go look at the the one in Northbrook next week, maybe I'll call and see if I can go tomorrow. Thanks-

Guy called me about one down here by me, it is in Grayville, ILL. A long way south of you, but I'll see what info he has about it. I saw this truck a few years ago but have no idea what it looks like now.

mine has cut rear fenders, rust on rear sill for sure. and as of this am, a dead battery.

got the pm, shot you a note in return.
Goebs

I was referring to the green one. ;)

I was half kidding.
