Such great service from the guys at Metaltech. I ordered these wednesday and they showed up today.

The guys told me that i need to remove the heatshield above the cats to install these. Also, i need to move the fuel line on the drivers side to insert the U bolts. I think im going to attach the fuel line brackets with thicker rubber washers, i do not feel comfortable leaving them with the stock screws.

Does anyone have any experience installing these ? Any tips would be appreciated.

Ill post some pics once they are on.

I have never heard of anyone having a problem just leaving the lines up against the U-Bolts.

Those are sexy. I really like the Metal Tech's from what I have seen. I truly love my Hanna's and may just have a little kick out added to them to have perfect sliders. That metal tech kick out is genius! Enjoy, I hear they work fantastic!

What year is your 80? Jiggawu and I installed these on his, a '94. If you have to remove the heat shield beware it is two pieces and the upper piece will be stuck up there. If you have a pre-95 do a thorough search on the 80 tech forum before you even start. There are a variety of install issues that people have had with these sliders. They get swept under the rug quickly by the Metal tech fan club over there, but they are valid issues.

On jiggawus, the assembly of the slider was so poor that we ended up having to grind away a bit of the cat guard support to get it to fit right. They seem to work OK on the trail but to me are not as advertised in terms of fitment on the pre-95s.

On another note, I am not trying to depress you now that you have just taken delivery. I am just hoping to save you some of the trouble jiggawu went through.

Not right away but they will wear through the lines eventually.



A simple fix if you are not comfortable bending them out of the way is to cut a piece of 1/4" fuel line and slice it along it's length to slide it over each fuel line and zip tie the ends. This will isolate the lines and prevent chaffing on the ubolts.

I see you also have a Tundra. I have the same photo of the MT Sliders in my Tundra. My Tundra is at the end of it's lease and I turn it in next week.

My lease is up in September, but I dont want to give the car because its a nice daily driver. I dont know what to replace it with. Its a great truck, and the mpg is not that bad compared to my dads 100 and my brothers 07 tahoe.

I can always get a good deal on a new trunda with these gas prices.

I have those too, on a '94.
I had to grind about a 1/2" chamfer on the PS front support to geet it to miss the heater hose.
I also elongated a couple of holes.

Oh, I know now that I should've taken off the heat shield around the whole cat, but it fit with them on, so I left it. But it rattles when cold. No biggie, just annoying.

And I saw Cdan's wife bend hers last weekend on the "Con. Not bad, but it was a hell of a hit.

I had better luck putting the rear hanger on first, then moving to the front.

I took me a while to install mine by myself, a lot of it trying to line up the Ubolts to avoid the track bar welds on the frame without grinding and figuring out that it was not lining up since the heat shield was in the way. On the 97 the heat shield is a single piece that interfers with one of the slider frame mount arms. I simply removed it and used tin snips to cut in a notch and reinstalled. I also took awhile deciding what to do with the brake lines. I ended up bending the front tab away from the frame which gave about 1/16" clear and I had to cut the back tab off since I could not remove it. I reused the plastic u tab and zip tied it against the U bolt so that it would rub on the the plactic tab not the line. I plan to put in a piece of rubber hose or ? to space them for a long term repair.

One other mistake I made was stripping one of the bolts on the passenger side cat mount by not tapping it out first.
