Those aren't the right mirrors. Looks like it's got a weird chrome tailpipe tip, too. (Not all of the photos showed up for me)

Before you sign off on the deal, you need to ask a ton of questions (has it been repainted, any body work, oil consumption/leakage? that sort of thing.) and probably need to see it/drive it/climb under it before you buy. Put a post out on here and see if there's anyone close who could go look at it for you if you're far away.

It looks like it's in FL, so I'd expect rust in the body, but not so much on the frame/susp.

How many miles are on it?

I would take this truck to your local state patrol office and have them run the VIN numbers. They can tell you (with way more detail) whether this thing has been wrecked or not.

I have the same mirrors on my '87 FJ60. Are they imprinted with "Toyota" on the top of the brace (the "face" of the mount)? Mine are. Anyone know what these are originally from?

It looks GREAT, by the way... new paint?

If you do end up buying it and want to part with the mirrors, give me a PM.

Fj60

It is in Louisiana. Supposed to be rust free. Dual exhaust. He stated that it has been repainted. It looks good to me. 4800 is the price. THink that is fair? He is also going to deliver it with no money up front. I suppose he is pretty confident in the truck mechanically and also confident that it is as represented. Any other thoughts? So, these mirrors could be factory? regards, bryan

Bryan...

That price is great, IMO. As long as it is structurally and mechanically sound. I am not saying the mirrors are factory, but they might have been an option. Anyone know for sure. Mine are imprinted with the Toyota brand.

Yeah he is going to drive it 18 hours to me. Must run ok! Can't believe it would tow that boat too well. Does the rear end look saggy? thanks, bryan

The mirrors are *definitely* not factory, propably replaced because the guy was towing and the OEM mirrors are barely adecuate.

Pictures shown aren't detailed but it looks clean, and the price is definitely right. I would definitely give it a close inspection, maybe take it to a mechanic you trust for a quick review. Also check for rust at the usual suspect locations (top of the rear wheelwells, bottom of the a-pillars, under the rubber push-guard on the liftgate, where the tubular crossmember meets the framerails, bottom edge of the tailgate, along the bottom and front edges of the driver and passenger door, and underneath the entire gutter rail).

Good luck, this is a good time to pick up 60's for those of us that like them, I've never seen them cheaper!

Someone once told me those mirrors where part of a factory installed tow package, along with a factory trailer hitch. I've never looked at them up close..

Looks okay in the pics, but you need to see it in person. If you can find a local knowledgeable Cruiserhead to help inspect it could make a huge difference. If you're close to TX, look up the Lone Star Land Cruisers and they will take good care of you.

Don't let the 18 hour drive make you feel guilty - that might be his angle...

Something important to note with the 60 - they are maintenance heavy vehicles and tend to need a lot of work. Also, if you're looking for a DD, these things ride like tractors - something to consider before buying one that is so far away. You may want to drive one locally - check out a local LC club and get behind the wheel, or find one in AutoTrader to drive - make sure it's the rig for you. If it is, pursue it.

I'd wonder about how much bondo is in the body (but I'm a sceptic) especially if it's in LA. I live in N TX and I've got rust. On an older vehicle like these, the seals all dry up and you get it in odd places like under the doors and around the rain gutter.

Also, is this truck a V8 conversion? The dual exhaust is an interesting choice for an inline 6 - that's why I ask.

You may try getting him down on the price though. If he won't budge, well...from the word of experience, don't jump on the first truck you find. As mentioned above, the prices are dropping like crazy on the 60s, and I've noticed a lot of them are up for sale these days (at least here) - the higher priced ones have been sitting, the ones that sell are beat and neglected. Checked out a local Auto Trader and saw more 60s than ever before, and cheaper, too. With gas prices being what they are, and the SUV craze is kind of coming to an end, they are less attractive on the market. I'm betting, if gas prices stay what they are, you'll see more of them in the coming months - so there's no need to jump on something if you don't want to - and it's a buyer's market, so prices will come down (and continue to come down). I'd almost venture to say prices are about half what they were 4 years ago.

If I were buying, I'd be looking for lower miles, no major component rebuilts (engine, transmission, etc) NOT a brand new paint job (along with a good, stout chasis/no frame rust) and a good maintenance history.

someone told ya wrong, also no factory hitch like on a 80/100.

I have driven one before so I know how they ride. The pinz is my daily driver so I am pretty sure I can handle the primitive Fj with a/c, heat and power steering with real roll up windows. :) I just want a good solid one for a driver. The maintenance on a conventional 4x4 is much less than a Pinz or mog with 8 gearboxes, air cooled motors, etc. Thanks for the tips though. I rather like primitive trucks and that is why I am looking for one. Don't need power windows or locks or cruise or anything like that. The guy is driving it to me with no money up front so if it is not as described I don't suppose he would drive it up here. I wouldn't for sure.

The 60 will feel like a new Caddy for you then :D and with the 12-14 MPG, you'll feel like you're driving a Hybrid. (I only brought it up because I've talked to other people who wanted to buy a 60 and after they got a little more info on them, they decided to hold off for an 80 - that said, I love my 60. There are things that could be better with it, but I own it because of that sick Cruiser love one feels for a 60...)

I still hold to the notion that the prices will continue to drop on the 60 for a while - mostly because of market forces, not age. A southern vehicle is a good start - as has been stated on these boards before: Southern 60s rot from the top down, up north, they rot from the bottom up.

What about the milage on this one?

The prices on 60's aren't going to come down. People buy these because they WANT them, not because they are concerned about fuel costs. They are getting fewer and farther between due to time and colision. I think the prices will continue to rise, but that is just my 2 cents.

Don't know how long you've been watching the market, but I agree with Swank. Prices have dropped ALOT. More truck for the money now, maybe cause they are getting older and the economy is in the s***ter. It's becoming a buyer's market now.

Have you seen under the hood shots? I looked a "one owner" 94 with 130k that looked like it had never been maintained (oil everywhere and bad seal on birf) Ask for those and if he has been putting that boat in and out of the gulf, I would carfully check for salt damage.

I agree the 60's are dropping, as 80's get cheeper they push 60's down (I'm looking for a 80 to replace mine).
