Something important to note with the 60 - they are maintenance heavy vehicles and tend to need a lot of work. Also, if you're looking for a DD, these things ride like tractors - something to consider before buying one that is so far away. You may want to drive one locally - check out a local LC club and get behind the wheel, or find one in AutoTrader to drive - make sure it's the rig for you. If it is, pursue it.
I'd wonder about how much bondo is in the body (but I'm a sceptic) especially if it's in LA. I live in N TX and I've got rust. On an older vehicle like these, the seals all dry up and you get it in odd places like under the doors and around the rain gutter.
Also, is this truck a V8 conversion? The dual exhaust is an interesting choice for an inline 6 - that's why I ask.
You may try getting him down on the price though. If he won't budge, well...from the word of experience, don't jump on the first truck you find. As mentioned above, the prices are dropping like crazy on the 60s, and I've noticed a lot of them are up for sale these days (at least here) - the higher priced ones have been sitting, the ones that sell are beat and neglected. Checked out a local Auto Trader and saw more 60s than ever before, and cheaper, too. With gas prices being what they are, and the SUV craze is kind of coming to an end, they are less attractive on the market. I'm betting, if gas prices stay what they are, you'll see more of them in the coming months - so there's no need to jump on something if you don't want to - and it's a buyer's market, so prices will come down (and continue to come down). I'd almost venture to say prices are about half what they were 4 years ago.
If I were buying, I'd be looking for lower miles, no major component rebuilts (engine, transmission, etc) NOT a brand new paint job (along with a good, stout chasis/no frame rust) and a good maintenance history.
