The seatbelt in my wonderful riding cruiser does not allow the freedom of movement I get in my other vehicles, even my old '87 4Runner! I have just enough belt to get it snapped in (yeah, I'm a big guy).

I'm looking for a longer seatbelt than the one in my 1993 FZJ. Does anybody know of any options? I'm willing to look at used, but prefer new.

The seatbelt itself seems to be working fine. It always comes out to the same length, the movement is smooth without any slowdown, stops, etc. And it seems to be the same length as the passenger side front belt.

TIA everybody!

Seat Belt Extenders

Go to your dealer and ask for seat belt extenders. Some will deny they exist but they do. I have a pair somewhere, got them from lexus dealer. They usually give them to you. I used them for my kids when they were in carseats, it was easier to buckle them. They are like the ones used in airplanes.

Here is a photo of Ford extenders, I can't find my Lexus ones. They were available in different lengths.

I need to do the same thing. I don't want to go back any farther but I just barely get the belt around my fat self.

CDan confirmed that you can get a free extender from your dealership and if they give you any trouble, have them look up: BO95–012, NOVEMBER 24, 1995

You have to do it locally as they have to measure you and order one of 3 or 4 different sizes.

I had to get a seat belt extender when I got my '94 back in 2000. Got them at the local Toyota dealership. They add about 9" to the belt. A word of warning: The back seat belts are different on mine, and we had to have the dealer re-order since they ordered back seat by mistake. What they do is extend the center console side and you just plug the part you pull over from the door into the extension.

That is a PDF of the Toyota document with the seat belt extender options and policy.

Yes, they are free, and yes, their are different ones for front and back.

-----------
Toyota customers who find it necessary to increase the length of their seat belts may obtain Seat Belt Extenders at no cost through their local Toyota dealer.
  • The extender is available in 6 inch, 9 inch, 12 inch, 15 inch and 18 inch lengths.
  • The extender is available only in black.
  • Owners are informed of the seat belt extender availability through the Toyota Owner’s Manual included in each vehicle.

The customer (individual requiring the extender) must visit a Toyota dealership to have the required measurements made and to complete the seat belt extender worksheet.
The worksheet will allow the proper fitting and selection of a seat belt extender for the customer. The dealership personnel should then determine the applicable part number
and place a Critical Order through the TDN Parts Network.
The dealership service department should complete the affixed Seat Belt Extender Label and review the “owner instruction sheet” with the customer. The dealership should give a copy of the completed worksheet to the customer and keep the original in the customer’s file.
To assure utmost owner satisfaction, it is recommended that a dealership designate one person to coordinate all activities related to the seat belt extender issue.

From past sales history, it is recommended that dealerships do not stock Seat belt extenders due to low demand and the need for customer fitting.

Download the PDF and print it out. Take it with you to the dealer.

The one problem I see with just adding a length on that side would be the positioning of the belt after it was added in.

From this website (888) 738-5970 WescoPerformance.com - Racing accessories, seat belts, Bell helmet car & truck tie downs

"The other problem is a safety issue. Honda, for instance, has been reluctant to supply an extender that can be clicked onto the male end of their 3 point (lap and over the shoulder) seat belts, and for good reason; it does appear to be less safe. When an extension is added to the "click-on" end of the belt, it re-aligns the shoulder harness portion of the seat belt toward the door. So the shoulder restraint becomes off-centered on the driver or passenger's body, which can allow the body to slip out from under the restraint more easily during impact."

What do y'all think of the extenders that website is offering vs. other solutions?
