congrats and welcome back, glad you made it safe and had a good time doing it! Can we get some curb flex shots?

OK... within a couple days I'll get some poser shots but not sure I can get up on a curb without lifting a tire :D Also needs a good cleaning from the ride back.

I went at this with the same approach as when I bought my 40... I focused on getting something that was mechanically sound and rust free. The other cosmetic stuff didn't matter as much... read that as I can fix cosmetic stuff easier than I can fix mechanical stuff. It's also a reality that people will pay a lot for a pretty Pig with no guts... and will over discount the value of a car for stupid cosmetic reasons. (That's why you always take flattering pics of your cars when you try to sell them) I was looking for the ugly duckling with guts.

I actually got the best of both worlds, and got it because of the high mileage. It's pretty, rebuilt and priced right. (Enzo Ferrari once said, you pay for my motor... the car is free) I payed for the motor rebuild and the rest was free.

Details -

1986 - was a Targa, now modified to a mid-90's Cabriolet style with auto retractable top. Lot's of miles 250k, but has a 2k miles old top to bottom engine, Tranny and clutch rebuild. Drips and burns no oil. Should be good for another 200k+ or so the Porsche experts tell me. Both axles replaces within the last 10k miles. Basically new other than the frame, interior and some of the body. $13.4k in documented work.

Exterior, while not perfect, is in very good shape. Not a spec of rust, shiny 5-6yrs old paint job and 2yr old top. I do need to replace the fogs.

Interior is OK. Dash is pretty much perfect and all the guages work including the clock. Seats are OK. One minor rip on each seat. Rear seats, if you can call them that, are OK. Carpet is OK and the doors are a bit rough. It's a drivers car on the interior. All can be fixed in good time.

Performance -

0-end of on ramps = 90 mph... I know because I regularly had to hit the brakes to merge

Top speed---don't know--- yet. :grinpimp:

I will take pics... because I know all threads are worthless without pics!

Steen, just read the whole thread, and I'm a jealous man. Looks/sounds like you got a great deal, and I can't imagine how much fun that road trip was. I would love to do the same thing, only I would try to travel Route 66 as much as I could. Guess Cars the movie made me nostalgic for that road.

Best of luck with the new Porsche both in getting the little things taken care of and staying out of trouble with Johnny Law. Hope to see it someday.

damn! You need to watch Top Gear on the BBC America. You would fit right in. Absolutely great!

As the reluctant president of this club, I authorize your use of a UC sticker on that rig, as long as you bring it to the next meeting and take me for a ride.:bounce:

Thanks Carp... actually can't believe I made it back without a ticket. Must have brought some good cruiser karma with me.

David, that's a deal! I'll display it proudly. I'm sure people will wonder about it.

Funny you should mention that. The Porsche club goes up there occasionally I hear. Of course, being a cabriolet without a rollcage may get me banned from the track :frown:

Now... if I tell Linda I need a "track rig", I may be living in the Porsche

ok ok its a great story but...... anyone verified it yet :D

The McDaniels... but they'd lie for me if I asked nicely :flipoff2:

um that was code for I WANNA SEE PICS!!!!! :)

OK... I've been slack. Can I blame it on the rain? :frown:

Supposed to be nice tomorrow so I'll take some better ones... but here's SORF and the "P" together for proof... crappy pic I know. Supposed to be nice tomorrow!

Pics... finally

It's a beautiful day... took a ride with the top down for the first time.

Took it into the shop last week for a "post rebuild 5k mandatory" valve adjustment and got it all checked out. All is good! Couple of minor things (horn, license plate light etc...) but nothing that will cost me.

Here are a couple shots.

Beats a commuter car!

A Pinto? "and did you exchange, a walk-on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage..."

Does explain the "fireman role" though... probably got your first experience with that car?

Get your computer helper to scan those pics in for us!

Did we forget to tell you we were kicked out of the Hot Springs RV Resort when you peeled out of the park on two wheels???

And... it was a dirt road... must have forgotten I wasn't in a cruiser!
