OK, I was deathly ill yesterday...I love it when the kids go back to school and bring home all of the nastyness....

Made up a few more. If anyone else has ideas, please bring them forward, we will have a vote at the next wing night, and that's the logo we submit.

I also had time to go through the bylaws...I will print them off and have them at the next meeting...I promise!!

My personal favorite....

An idea ibex put up at the cookout was a thing called 99 designs. For 300 ish bucks you get a bunch of graphic designers working on a logo for you. They submit a bunch, like 30, you narrow it down, and the resubmit their further developed ideas. You end up with more than a few options.

Ratpuke had sent me to "button it" designs for the tarsand logo as he's done a bunch of cruiser club logos. He was great to deal with and a little more expensive than above. He did swamp donkeys and tall corn cruisers are the ones I know of. Check his website out and you can see his work.

Not to say I don't like the ones we have. I do for sure. My fave this far is the curvy drop on the maple leaf.

Another thing we need to sort is a wing spot. The service at dukes has not been awesome and brew house is a little loud. I don't have other ideas as I don't know the area. Anyone know of a hole in the wall with decent food and service?

What??!

I personally don't think that we have to go that far. I don't think you would get much better from an outside source and here is why.

You already have the talent to create this logo within your group. I don't know what Potlatch's experience is, but he seems to be pretty good with a graphics program. Myself, in my past life I designed mediocre websites for a living, including all of the graphics for those websites. I have had to work with many people to make the websites and the biggest issue that they faced, and the biggest issue I think the group faces, is getting a coherent idea of what you want. Until that is understood, any professional will have an issue coming up with a design that is acceptable. What typically happens in a situation like this is that the designer starts throwing out designs and the client says "yay" or "nay" and through this process eventually the designer figures out what the client wants.

I give koodos to Potlach for throwing out those first designs. You have to start somewhere. He threw it out there, constructive criticism was given and new designs were made from that criticism. You have to understand that design is a fluid thing; it does just not come out perfect the first time. I don't think it is time to give up yet.

I don't know why, but to me it feels like there is a rush to get a logo. That is the worst thing to do. I have not been a part of this group for too long so I'm not sure of what I am about to say is untrue or not, but in order to design a good logo for the group, the group has to have and know what it's identity is. How does the group want the logo to portray them?

I like the idea of desiging something for the group by the group. We don't send our rigs to mechanics when they need fixing or mods. We do it ourselves. I think that together we can have a logo that we are all proud of and as things prgress and the logo changes (and it will) we can be proud to say that we designed that logo, that that's what we wanted and it's what we got, even if is not perfect...who's rig is perfect...it's the imperfections that give character.

So, before going down the "professional" design road, I would suggest that as a group we meet in person to discuss the logo designs that we currently have and to give constructive criticism on where we want to go with the logo. I don't think that a logo should be picked at that meeting, but it will be a way to see what everyone wants. It is ok to post ideas up here, but it is not the ideal place.

Sorry for the long reply. I hope that this is more inspirational that a rant.

So...this afternoon I worked on another logo design after getting inspiration from what Potlach had posted.

So what I know of the group so far is that it is about Toyota Land Cruisers and you like to wheel. At this point, unless someone says what they would like to see on a logo in general I have taken the sance of using some Toyota logo reference and changing it so that it still has the Toyota feel, the Alberta/Canada feel and the Oil feel.

I looked at the "Button IT" logos and they are more like line drawings of cruisers. If that is what the group wants, that can be done too. Feel free to say what parts of the logo you like and don't like, also feel free to say what you think might make it better. Print it out draw on it with pencil scan it and repost it.

It's not that there's a huge rush, I just wanted to get something decent to submit to the TLCA with our application. We can always change it. As far as going with the pros, I'm not against it. They can put a certain "polish" on things that I just don't have the knack for. I checked out the 99 guys... Meh, you don't really get to interact with the designers, you get what you get... I foresee getting something simple going for the TLCA and then doing what the Tarsand guys did, something that looks good on a shirt or sticker. (I have had some good comments on my Tarsand hoodie!!) Anyhoo...no hurry, not a contest, just getting the ball rolling...

Next meeting is tomorrow night. I can help you with doing up a chapter in good standing form if you want. I can submit a logo - but it doesn't have to be finalized for a couple months prob since it likely won't make it into the current issue of Trails formulating.

Edit: sorry, I thought you meant TLCA meeting. Prob want to approve it before we submit. I will be patient.

Yeah, I'll need some help filling out the forms....I'll bring a Dairy Milk....

Still farting around...kind of fun actually...

Those Logo's are looking sweet. I agree with Larry that we can likely get this done ourselves....by ourselves I mean Paul and Larry....I have nothing to offer but creative assistance lubricant (Beer) and smart ass remarks.

The Teq is certainly Toyota specific but do we want something Land Cruiser specific? Maybe not, maybe guys with samurais and 4runner's wouldn't feel welcome...

Really like the last couple Logo's up there.

Another thing is we can have more than one... Swamp Donkey's have like 10 or something... some are not as PG rated and some are.

Deny hand drew the original Swamp Donkey one. TLCA rejected it because they claimed it to be offensive. I posted up on mud looking for help and Richard (from Button-It) stepped up to help
when no one else would. Richard is a cruiser head in Washington. He took what Deny had made and revamped it because I liked the styling of the Tall Corn logo he did. He created four logos for us - our original offensive one (now our members only logo), a TLCA logo, a combo version and a simple swamp donkey lettering logo for decals because our main one is too complex for stickers. I've since had Richard create a few for personal ventures and a few friends have had him do stuff as well (including the Tarsand logo). I like Richards work, obviously. I like how they look printed and I like seeing what ideas he comes up with. The fact he stepped in to help us out when no one else did made me a loyal customer. But as long as what we come up with doesn't look like a suburban with its wheel falling off it likely will be ok.

My vote can be bought. 1 case Kokanee and I'll back your 2 year old kids logo submission. Just thought I'd be upfront about it.

Although my vote can be bought, I have to tell all. I am 39 years old and this will be my third run at a dedicated lc, toyo club. In Edmonton. If we squabble over stupid s*** like this we lose focus. The focus is enjoy what we have left of trails, help each other, learn about this cool vehicle and enjoy each other's company. The tlca is just more friends and more minds that think alike and recognize our little comraderie. The logo is just our last step into thAt world , if we modify it they will change it. Let's focus in the goal, wheel and enjoy the community for all of its assets. Once established we can change the logo 100 times. But established with the ability to promote something sound and goal oriented is more important than the picture that represents us. The logo mean f all compared to what we have and the fun that will come.

Once again this opinion can be bought. You all know the cost.

Agreed with Bambino.

Here is the latest that I have cobbled together.

These are just ideas, like a sketch; until things are solidified, I'm not going for high quality graphics, just ideas.

Ha Ha, why is everyone getting so exited?? It's just a logo....We will change it I'm sure...Like I said, just trying to get the ball rolling....

Just to be a dink...

Tyler, this is what I was trying to copy...That's as "Cruiser" as it git's right ther!

OK, I'll go back to putting IKEA furniture back together....stupid Swedes.....

Sorry...couldn't resist...

I think I nailed it tho....

Dean, a case of Kokanee if you fly this one on your rig....

I realized that after I posted last. That shape is cruiser ish but would only be recognized by the hard cores... I like it the best so far. The only tweak would be the fancy oil drop. I even like the color. Simple, Toyota, Clean look good on a shirt or small sticker or hat. All good.
