Guys, i need your help here.. i just noticed few days when driver side door is open and key is in ignition without starting, it will lock/unlock several times. close the driver side door or start the vehicle and it stops.. this is not normal, what's causing this? thanks...

mine does that now and then, then works fine. I noticed once, however, that the unlock button had stuck canted sideways and continually actuated lock till I released it.

When the motor is off with the keys in the ignition and the door is open, there is a built in safety that will immediately unlock the doors after locking them. If the rocker that operates the door locks is working, I would look for that next.

yeah, I would say it is working properly if your trying to lock it while the keys are in.

Now I wish my subaru also did that... a few calls to AAA later and now I have a wallet key

If you find the toggle to be in good working order (not stuck), I would look to the "park" switch on the trans. Your doors should lock when you shift out of park, but if the door is open it will unlock. You could end up locking yourself out of the rig if this is the issue.

My 99 doesn't lock the doors when I shift out of park...I doubt his 98 does that either. That probably came in 2003, but I'm not sure.

Every now and then, a similar thing happens on my 98. With the truck running, if the passenger door is opened, the power locks will continually try to unlock (its as if you kept pressing the unlock button). Once you close the passenger door, all is well. I have never tried it with the key just in the ignition though without the truck running.

This does not happen often, maybe once every couple months or so?

Do you have any alarm related issues? I have a nagging one that comes and goes. See https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/106226-alarm-malfunction-my-98-a.html#post3767062 I'm thinking that I have a bad door lock actuator sending a conflicting signal to the ECU, causing the alarm logic to sound the alarm.
