Ok, been searching tons here and Pirate, beside the 55, the wife has a 93 FJZ-80 with lockers. The rear doesn't engage...the front works fine.

I have tried driving on a dirt road in circles, and those tests to get it to mesh up to lock...the problem I am hearing is this:

When I turn it to the rears, nothing happens the light flashes...when I turn it to the front, I hear a "click" in the glovebox then a few seconds later the front locks. Should I be hearing this for the rear as well?

Just a thought...

FJBen,

You should hear the electric motor on the rear diff as it engages/disengages. You may also hear a "clunk" as it engages/disengages. Those with good hearing may hear the relays as you described.

If your truck has spent time in the rust belt it is probable that the actuator is corroded. They also benefit from frequent use. The best thing is for you to engage the locks once every week or two. It only takes a few seconds and you can add it to one of your maintenance routines.

Thanks for the info, I hear the relay click on in when I engage the front locker, but nothing for the rear. The cruiser has spent it's life 30 miles from me here in Colorado and the underbody looks fine.

I guess I'm just wondering if there are two relays, one front and rear, and could one of them possibly gone bad? I turn the front on every month or so to keep it working properly.
