I am in the process of trouble shooting my rear locker. I got a 98 with a rear locker about 2 weeks ago. Rear locker didn't engage while stopped or while in N giving medium throttle.

I followed this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/17701-rear-locking-dif-assembly-help.html

The actuator made no noise so I removed it expecting a bad motor. I jumped the motor on the battery and it cycles both ways. I cycled it to the locked position off the battery, turned on the cruiser, and the shaft retracted back to the unlocked position. The other 3 wires on the plug checkout as well. 4 to 6 open for locked and 4 to 5 open for unlocked. The cruiser just doesn't want to use the actuator.

So now that the locker actuator doesn't seem to be the problem, where is the locker ecu located? I'm thinking it's not getting the signal from the center diff lock. Any ideas on where to look for the solution?

I recently found out that my diff lock will not engage and did a ton of reading/researching.

Here's all the threads about 100s mentioning "rear diff lock" in them.

You may want to start with the link in PFran's post about engaging rear diff locks.

Hope that helps.

Were you in 4L when you were trying to activate the rear e-locker? If not give it another try with the t-case in 4L...with tranny in drive 5-10mph. Sometimes it helps to, while trying to engage the rear e-locker, steer left and then right...back and forth...so the rear wheels travel at different speeds...

I figured it out. Turns out the problem isn't with the lockers, but with the 4 Low Detector/Sensor. When put into Low range no dash light illuminates. I'm not sure what all the implications are of this and whether its worth fixing. Disabling ABS and Overdrive in L would be the issue with leaving it as is?

Instead of fixing the low range detector/sensor I found an old write-up on enabling the locker in H. Cut the black wire with the blue streak and spliced it to the blue wire with the black streak.

Locker works great in the garage. I can't wait to try it on some trails.

When the e-locker is activated ABS is automatically turned off (ABS lamp on the dash would be lit in this situation).

There's a thread about this I just posted in but if you want OD/4th gear when in 4L all you need to do is pull the OD connector that resides on the back side of the t-case in the 1:00 position when looking at the trio of connectors from the tail side of the t-case. With several days of trail running with mine set-up this way I've not found a downside. YMMV.
