Hi,

I'm looking for input on local shops to set up the gears for my 1991 80 series. I have everything necessary(I think) and was going to do it myself this summer but a shoulder injury will keep me from completing it. I have diffs out and ready to go and can deliver all parts to RI, Conn, Mass, Southern NH and Southern VT, and Maine within reason pretty much any day of the week for at least the next 8 weeks. Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks

There's a cruiser specialty place near Providence and the name of them is escaping me. They'd prolly be your best bet locally. They are all over the board here so someone else can chime in and help me with my memory

Thanks for the ideas. I'm looking for a shop that comes recommended by fellow cruiser owners. If the shop near providence you are talking about is New England Landcruisers, I have called several times but not gotten an answer. I don't want to count them out because I have heard good things about those guys and they are only like 3 miles from my house!!

Is southern NH a possibility? I would hit up Cruiser Solutions... Oh wait, I did do that! Do it, Ted will take great care of you.

take a look here:
1996 FZJ80 Service Work- : Cruiser Solutions, custom cruisers, restorations, genuine Toyota parts, body tubs, used Land Cruisers for sale

I have used them in the past and even got a quote for a diesel conversion from them. I may have to take another ride up to Hampstead to see them. Are they the shop that set up your 4.88's?

Josh are you the one that used to have the blue tacoma?

PM Joex3 he and his brother are the ones that run New England Land Cruiser. I have had luck PMing him. He a good guy. I know they have been really busy having trouble setting up their new shop. As always Kina at North Country Land Cruiser, Poor Wally or should Tedd at Cruiser Solutions should be able to help you out. PM me if you need any phone numbers for them.

Nope I never had a blue tacoma, just a maroon 91 landcruiser. I've been running around these parts with it for 5 or 6 years now. I've gotten parts from New England Landcruisers before but through a mutual acquantance only. I'll try them and Ted at cruiser solutions. If only my shoulder were up to snuff this wouldn't be an issue. I'd already have the gears in and running!

Should have looked closer at the wheels. Dead giveaway!

I haven't ever set up diff before but if you want to do them yourself and need a hand let me know. I live over in Pawtucket.

I've set up a lot of Subaru Diffs, But never a Toyota. However after checking both of the out they are very similar in setup and I could probably even use some of the Subaru special tools during the setup! I think I will probably just pay someone to do this though and enjoy my TDI this summer with no wheeling.

Thanks for the offer though!

Probably not a bad idea. I think that Ken Flesher told me that the 80 series are kind of a bitch.

Mine doesn't have the e-lockers so they are the same as the older style except the front is 8 inch reverse cut. No shims for the carrier bearings. Those are the bitch of the 80 series supposedly.

No, the open 80-series are easy. Yup, it's the rear e-locker that's a total PITA.

Bring them up to my house in Salem NH, we'll do them together. I'll do all the grunt work, have a press and all the tools. I've done a bunch of them.

I highly recommend Bob at Bay State Off Road in Middleboro. Bob and Liza contribute back to the community a LOT and set up my 3rd and installed a spool for my 4Runner. Bob is a perfectionist about setting up gears, but you'll never have to worry about the set-up.

Thanks to everyone who pointed me in the right directions. I spoke with Ted at cruiser solutions this morning and his attitude was so upbeat about it I took a quick trip to NH with my daughter. So now Moe at cruiser solutions has my diffs and said they should be ready to pick up early next week if not sooner! They also convinced me to go to the Deep Woods Extreme Rock Crawl event later this month. Great bunch of guys there. Can't believe I hadn't thought of them on my own.

Good choice, Mo does great work. I hope Tedd gave you the tour of the place.

Didn't get a tour this time, but I did last time I went there.
