web site Welcome to the Birmingham Amateur Radio Club, Birmingham, Alabama - W4CUE.COM for info.. I have no affiliation.

I've heard from various people that these hamfest have great deals on used gear and new stuff. Just posting up for those who may have an interest.

I would look around online for some prices or whatever to get an idea before showing up if you guys were looking to buy any gear. If you were to study a little prior to going most likely you could pass the test. I read the ARRL studyguide 2 or 3 times, and took the online practice tests from eham.net and I was good. There were a few questions I could not recall the answer too, but I would say 80% or more of the actual test questions were either asked on the practice tests I saw or I recall the content from the study guide. The actual test questions are pulled from the same pool of questions that the practice test are pulled from. So the more practice tests you take the more content you are exposed to....the obvious...conclusion is that you will see a number of the questions you will be asked on the test itself.

I've been told by more than one person that there are deals to be had at those events, but you certainly would want to know what to look for and a ballpark price as to what the stuff sales for online for comparison.

I have read through the manual and have passed three practice tests since then. I feel sure if I read it the night before again I would be fine. Some of the questions are hard but if you read through it first a lot of the questions are answered by subsequent questions

Stop this! Now you've got me thinking about buying more stuff. This place is almost within walking distance and now I've got to go.
