I pulled into my shop today and as I was popping the hood I heard liquid dripping onto the floor. Sure enough the lower tank of my no-name-previous-owner-installed radiator was leaking. So I started researching my options in 80-Series Tech and here's what I came up with, cheapest first:
1. TYC from Amazon and hope they send a Koyo. If not, send it back. $137
2. Spectra Premium from RockAuto. All I know is it's cheap, maybe no better than a true TYC. $156
3. Koyo A1918 from random eBay seller for $237. Lots of opinions on these to be found.
4. Denso 2213128 from RockAuto for $283. I put a Denso condenser in my Prius and it was beautiful, really nice quality. Found one thread discussing them, said it looked solid, made in Indonesia.
4. OEM. Not an option for me. Actually my heart tells me to buy the Denso but it's not really an option either, just too much money.
My current plan is to order the "maybe it's a Koyo" from Amazon and hope I get lucky. If not, I'll return it.
Does anyone have a better, maybe local, source for me than those I listed? When I was a tech we used Performance Radiator but I don't personally know any of the suppliers around here. We just moved to Philly last summer and I'm not turning wrenches anymore. 19128 ZIP code.
Just wanted to get some commentary from folks in the area before I pulled out the credit card.
