Hi all. I’m new to here. I’ve just got an lj78 and it’s got junk tyres and wheels on it.
What is the standard (uk) wheel size (and offset) and tyre size please?

Also, it’s previously failed it’s MOT test due to excessive smoke. Any ideas why?

Any help would be great!

If I'm not mistaken, in most European countries the standard/factory size for the 70-Series (1984-1999) has been 205R16.

PS. For the UK specifically, this has been the case at least for the 60-Series (source: Autocar magazine, July 29, 1987).

hello,

yes, the standart tire size in Europe for lj70 series is 205 - 80 - 16.

for the excessive smoke, there can be many reasons leading to that but a asfe and easy solution would be to add some injector cleaner / fuel additive into a quarter tank, drive a bit and then filling up the tank with a clean high quality diesel. there are even some fuel additives specifically aiming to reduce the smoke, aiming MOT tests. (I use Wynn's and I am happy with it)

Thanks guys. This is really helpful. Do you know what the wheel offset is?

Wheels should be 16x6 with a 0 offset.

If not faded, there should be a label on the door jamb that says what size the tire was when your cruiser was new.

Here is a photo from my cruiser (top label, mostly in Japanese in my case)

Can anyone recommend some good wheels to go on my lj78? I would like some original ones, but they seem rare. Can anyone recommend some good ones?
