:wrench::confused:

I have an LJ78 (2lte)hat I've had for 4 yrs now and the exhaust is rotton. I've got a price for a 2.5" mandrel bend for $1500alum/steel and $2000 for ss.I'm currently running the stock pipe exiting before the drivers back wheel with no muffler. Its a tad loud but myEGT is 150 to200 deg cooler.

2grand is a bit to pricy for this ride, so I will go with a reg exhaust job in2.5" with a free flow muffler on the st o ck routing.

Q,s
- Has anyone found a reasonable priced improved downpipe?

-Is the stock down pipe removeble without removing the entire turbo? What are the chances the studs snapping and having to be drillled?

-Muffler shop suggested cutting exhaust pipe just after the dump pipe and going from there in 2.5" .Am I loosing a lot with this?

Also I'm in BC and have air care and this is aHighway /at setup

Thanks in advance

PK

-Where should I have my flex pipe and could you give me an idea on considerations as per heat, best effect etc

Go 2.5" direct from the turbo. Might have to fabricate a new mounting plate at the turbo end, but you can take the patternfrom the existing one. Flexi pipe usually just under drivers seat...on rhd anyway.

Factory dump pipes usually have a restriction inside.

if you check out my LJ78 build thread from a couple 4 years back you will see the exhaust i had run.
$650 aluminized steel with steel free flowing muffler.

gotoy.
When you say,'from the turbo you mean dump pipe or the actually turbo?
I realize the benifit of the 2.5" from the turbo but getting it made here in Canada in a shop would be about $500 for that part alone.
I wish I had a w elder or a friend with one.

I here others putting their flex pipe under the driver,s feet rhd but Toyota has an semi flex pipe just a few inches from the down pipe...?
Have you had any experience with removing those flange bolts?
I am just worried if I start messing with them I'll be taking a big chance of having to remove the turbo.

I have a 3" pipe all the way from the actual turbo.

Can't recall about the actual toyota felx pipe but mine is just in front of the drivers rhd seat.

Crushers -I finally refound that post. you post a lot!
On that sys you have the flex pipe under the drivers feet. In the pict that shows it painted, is it hanging from the original flange from the downpipe?ie is that flange mating with the turbo or the down pipe?

I would like to know what Im in for if I try to take my dump off.

Thatjob for that price what a deal!!! Im in the fraser valley and that would cost me $2400!!!!:ban::bang:
I think he could get $650 for a dump pipe with a bung for a probe on the coast.Esp when that is the second mod for this vehicle right after good solid cooling sys.I,ve got$$$ in mine.

If you were to spend the money on a welder and find a nearby exhaust supply warehouse material should be well under 500 for aluminized and right around 500 for SS that includes a decent muffler/ flex pipe, hangers, union flanges everything...

It is nice to have someone else do it, but no one cares about workmanship on your truck like you do...

Cheers!

I do find it challenging getting things done how you want for a decent price. I would love to weld this up but that is a bit of a undertaking and I need to get this done as my hacked off pipe is getting annoying.
