Hey man glad to hear your truck's runnin better! Dam good on ya.
Are you still using that POWER SERVICE additive? If so, it's complete garbage. sorry lol
Go to your local diesel injection place, and they should have Stanadyne. comes in two flavours: Lubricity Formula, and Performance Formula. I use both and they are very good products. You only need about 200ml per tank(if that) and you can mix them to get a good balance of lubricity and performance/cleaners. Any of that **** that CDN Tire sell or even lordco (HOWES) is ****. ask me how I know.
I used to maintain exploration drill equipment in the field (CAT engines, Kubota, Deere etc.) we used everything under the sun because our company didnt wanna pay for stanadyne. So I went and bought some myself and the difference was night and day.
anyway ill stop selling their product for them. lol

I use it in my 3b all the time. Just hate to see people throwing their money away on additives that do Fu&k all.

Cheers man!

Hey, thanks for the heads up! Yeah, I have been using the Power Service stuff still. I had done some reading of reviews and stuff and thought it was ok. But hearing a recommendation from someone like yourself who has worked in industry carries a lot of weight. Stanadyne it is. I'm going to find me some and give it a try. Thanks!

Nick

Hey no worries. a lot of guys use Howes which is simply a anti gel formula. and power service is a cetane additive stanadyne is lubricity, anti gel, cetane booster, fuel cleaners, and is the Only additive approved by diesel manufacturers. so thats why i tell people about it. somebody did the same for me i was usin that power service too for a while
Anyway cheers

Well guys, I replaced the ECU coolant temp sensor last night (one in the back of the block under the intake manifold). I had read it was tough to replace, but I found it dead simple; perhaps because my engine has had all the emissions crap removed. Also, I did the job at the same time that I replaced the fuel filter, which made the sensor clearly visible and accessible.

I've already noticed a number of differences. My glow plugs are cycling more appropriately according to the temperature of the engine, and the engine feels totally different on cold start up. Even when up to temperature, the engine feels differently now. Feels like the injection timing might be advanced a bit compared to how it was before. There is a bit more diesel noise to the engine now. Before it was so smooth (retarded?) that it felt like a gasoline engine most of the time.

I'll report back with the fuel economy. I suspect there is going to be a BIG improvement yet again.

Any news on this ?? I bought a LJ78 last week and I think it is wasting too much fuel lol...the sad part is that my speedo is not working so I have to fix that first to see what mpg I am actually getting.

The temp sensor does not appear to have made a significant difference to my fuel economy. For some LJ78 owners it does though, so probably still a worthwhile thing to do for you.

Congrats on your Prado purchase! Make sure your cooling system is working top notch, and install a temp gauge and pyrometer as soon as you can. Drive carefully, as the head WILL crack the first time you overheat the engine. With the right upgrades and modifications, you won't have overheating problems though. Just do your research.

Thanks for the tips, I will try my best to keep it in good shape!!:D
