I recently purchansed an 1989 LJ70 with a 2L-T motor from an importer in FL.
I am trying to trouble shoot a clicking noise on startup.
Doesn't sound normal to me, but the noise is coming from either the
stater relay or the glow plug relay area. If someone could tell me if I should
be hearing a "clicking" noise from this area, I'd really appreciate it.

The motor does turn over. Just when you turn the key from OFF to RUN, it clicks.
It does Not "click" when the key is placed to START.

Both relays are over $250 with shipping from Europe or Oz. Rather not
buy either, let alone both to trouble shoot this.

Thanks,
Don

Welcome aboard mate.
Normal save your money as the clicking is the relay dropping out after heating the glow plugs on your diesel engine. :)

Note... that motor is also found in Toyota forklifts. Parts may be closer and cheaper than you think.

OzCruiser & Chester,
Thanks for the reply. Good news on both counts.
I will check out the Toyota Forklift parts for spares, and stop sweating the "clicking."
Good insight.
Cheers,
Don

Don, did you ever solve this? What was the solution to the clicking? I have similar issue see video here.
