Has anyone had a situation where just after starting a 3B the engine gradually settles into too low an idle, where it'll stall if you try to drive away, then it picks up again and all is normal from then on?

OK sorry it's been a long week and I just got off work and have had a few  so I'm feeling a little silly  .

Is this at warm or cold start etc.?

I bet mine would do it cold if I didn't use a little hand throttle.

BTW today it was "really cold" (for Cali standards)--about 35 degrees F (2 degrees C?). I did the multiple cycling of the glow plugs that somebody recommended for Stiffler's starting problems and WAY reduced the white smoke. Engine fired almost on the first crank. Make sense??

B

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking (vacuum). It does it when cold but also after at least 5 minutes of sitting between starts...just reeks of air leak doesn't it? I'll triple check all my new hoses and fittings.

Hello
You may need to install a one way check valve on the inlet side of your Racor filter. After shutting the engine down the fuel maybe running back down the hose, causing the engine to starve for fuel
Looks like from your pic the fuel has to run up before it gets to your primary filter.
