Someone convince me not to link the rear of Bob..

As some of you know I have a 85 FJ60 that is getting a bit of a power train revamp..

The only problem istha tI am looking at bashing the rear shackles on rocks all the time. Solutions are to SO the rear and lift the crap out of it (I really like the height of it currently, it has a 2.5" lift and will clear 35's easily) and then do something with the front or just link the rear and call it good...

Linking the rear will take a while.. And that is the main problem.. I can wheel it where it is right now and probably be happy with it but a linked rear will afford a better departure angle.

I really don't want to fully turn this rig into a hardcore rig.. So I am not sure that the links in the rear are necessary..

Hmm.....

If I do link it..

Wishbone three link .

Cash

Too much money for me. I would love to have mine 4 linked, but don't have the $$$$$ and time, and knowledge.

That statement is not really true. If I had the money, I would make the time. ;)

Are you gonna do coils? coilovers? 1/4 elliptical?

I'd just drive it, if it's not your hardcore trail rig. Leaf springs sure are easy. But then again, it's not my money or time, so do it!!!!!!!

We need a new buildup thread.

wheel the s***...

after running 38's on a short, fat sprung under truck I am no longer so convinced that you need a springover or lots of flex...

ran upper 2, lower 2 and schoolbus at Tellico with two jeepers, both linked up front and rear, tons of flex. they ran 37" Irock/MTRs. They both pulled cable at least once, I never did.

Where they get tippy I never am, and something about 100" wheelbase just climbs ledges better at Tellico than their 110"

As we all know, no rig is perfect for all terrains....huge flex isn't a big deal in Tellico, but is a near-must in other areas...

I agree with the "wheel it" replies....hell, does it even run yet? :flipoff2:

Ahh, it is not the flex that I am going for here.
It is more to not catch the rear shackles on a ton of stuff..

Frame is a lot better than I would have thought.. links would be easier on it ;)

post a pic of those rock/ curb catchers and I'm sure most will agree that something needs to be done.... Not sure if linking is the way to go though. I bet if you moved the top of the shackle to the top of the frame & then had your springs arched you would probably end up where you are now, with much better approach. Maybe instead of arching you could throw a set of coils on top of the axle for lift..

Don't you think Curb is a bait on the harsh side???

This is what you really want to hear.....

Do it man, do it...

who cares if it takes longer...your slow as all hell anyways:beer:

Get the rear a-arm from an early range rover and make some hd lower links with rubber bushings on the axle and flex joints on the frame. You could build it in one weekend.

He may be small, but he has a big heart :D

It is just in another room right now ;)

If you have the skills, the time, and you can hide enough cash from the wife.....Link it. I hated smashing the shackles on every departure in my 60. It is one less thing to worry about on the trail later.

Those would actually be perfect..

Pick 'em up at KO, I am sure linking won't happen until after that:D :flipoff2:

LOL

Probably not :D

I got some trooper crap as well sitting in the garage too...
