Hello to all, I'm considering buying a pair of Lightforce 170's for my 90 Hdj81 and was wondering if there is anyone out there to offer their opinion on the perfomance of these lights (Hopefully mounted on their own rig). I have a stock bumper and also wonder if there would be any issues mounting them? Cheers Tony

dont know about the 170s, but i've have the 240s on a few of my previous rigs. they are awesome, you can shoot them with a shotgun and they dont die, and from what i've seen they redesigned the breathers on them and they work much better now.

I've got the 170s and am very happy.

They're my first set of offroad lights, so I can't compare to others, but they're much brighter than the OEM lights, and the wide angle filters are great in many situations.

Thanks for your input, Zombie I was looking at the 240's but thought with the stock bumper that it may be a triffle problematic, maybe you can comment? Dog ... Unbelievable set-up, had a look at your link, don't think I'm quite that ambitious ! Too many other distractions but good info on the lights. Cheers Tony

i've used the 240s on my roof. i'd be concerned with them on a stock bumper, or any bumper for that matter, as it seems to me they'd block a ton of airflow. after all they are 9.5" diameter, but they are incredibly bright and when they tell you they are 1,000,000 candlepower, they are at least damn well close to it. Lightforce builds a quality product, any light of thiers that you run, i think you'll be happy with.

If you want auxiliary lights, look a the Hella 4000.

There are a bunch more shots scattered around in the LX450 pics section too.

They are great lights - I like to run a wide angle cover on the right and a clear on the driver's side. I was worried about the covers getting scratched since LightForce doesn't seem to offer opaque rock guards but they are looking very nice after three years. It doesn't mattter if they get shabby, since I have a spare wide and spot cover (you have to buy them in pairs).

Thanks Mot,checked out your link and your review is very thorough as usual! I assume that you had the "spot" lenses installed on the 240's judging by the pics. That dark spot in the middle when broadened the beam is a bit of a drag. Lightforce info often compares the adjustment system to a Mag-lite, and if you've ever used them they have the same "black hole", I'm hoping the "combo" lenses have less of this tendency. Thanks again, Tony

I've got the wide angle lenses on my 170's and I don't get the black spot with the diffused beam.

I had three 170's on my tacoma and they were sweet! I mainly used the clear spot lenses but I also have a set of 3 yellow wides and I think I have three clear combo's. The yellows were perfect for fog or rain and the combo's were nice for desert driving. I need to sell those things...

Hi Cary I just had a look at the Hella 4000, looks like great lights but I would like to only buy one pair and as there is many foggy/rainy nights around here it would be ideal to have lights which can do double duty (or even triple) fog/snow/driving. I've had Hella lights in the past and have proven to be robust and reliable. Mlachica, thats QUITE the inventory of lenses for your lights, how do you stow them when not in use so they don't get all beat up? Thanks, Tony

There is no such thing. The patterns and cutoffs and preferred mounting positions are completely different. You can buy replacement lenses for the Hella's and swap them, but what you really should do is buy a set of driving lamps if you need them and a smaller set of fog lamps to mount down low.
