I have an '88 bj74 and I am looking at all possibilities at lifting it. What about rearhicng? what about lift kit brand and prices? Any Aussies got any comment on the Ironman lift kit over old man emu? Belton etc?

I've never had any experience with a re-arched spring...and I'm trying to imagine the process off the top of my head. When you bend the original spring to make the arch taller to give the vehicle more lift, don't you in effect shorten the point between the two spring eyes that go on the shackle and pin? I would imagine that you can only arch them so much before they wouldn't fit anymore, and wouldn't ride be severely affected? I would imagine that a spring pack specifically designed lift incorporated would use longer leaves in a taller arch.

My Terrain Tamer was $2100 CDN from 4wheelauto...but the ride is only okay (a bit stiff). For the money, I would give the OME Dakkar kit a try.

The OME Dakka are Beltons and those who have them are happy.
Ironman are a major player and didnt get there without good reason.

I got Dobinsons and after 3 years I am only too happy to reccomend them.
There is also a Dobinsons dealer who visits this forum.
Dobinsons get a lot of mining and govt work here.

One thing to remember when buying suspension from oz.
Most of its made for load carrying vehcles on rough roads, not for weekend trail rigs that need lots of articulation.
Your 74 needs front spring for a 7* series and rears for a 60 series.
The 60 series is about 200kg heavier and most is on the rear axle so if you buy HD rears they will ride hard unless you are fully loaded;)
I have standard rears on mine. A little bumpy unloaded but perfect with 2 mountain bikes and the weekend camping gear in the back ;)

I have an 1989 BJ74 with a Belton kit installed. The ride is a little stiff (i did not remove any of the leaves)
Purchased from Modern Motors Calgary for $1600. Not sure if they are still avaible.

I did E-Mail Iron Man and could not get any info on dealers in Canada.
The Dakar kits (Old Man Emu) are available in Canada and USA. I was told there shocks are better than the Belton,(Desert Fox) and provide a smoother ride.

I have Dakar 2" on mine and am very happy. Good articulation and a smooth ride with greasable shackles

re -arched spring pack bad idea ... waste of money IMOP .. good lift first 3-4 month regular lift 6 -8 month and afer that no lift .. :grinpimp:

I was seen many fellows here doing it with bad results ..

what price for the dakar kit and where from?

I bought the springs, pins, shackles and bushes from ARB Moorebank in Sydney.

I think the total was circa $600 AUD.

They are the medium duty springs

I would recommend Dobinsons over OME and Belton. I have all three and by far am much happier with Dobinsons, neither come close to the quality of the shocks that Dobinsons offer. I also have found that the Dobinsons gives you a little more lift in the end then the Belton. Just my experience.
