One of mine is buzzing pretty bad.

I have had no luck finding any reference to this speaker, part# 8715AA 1807 L52 - but, it seems to cross reference part# 861600xxx which looks like the speaker plus some sort of extra plastic assembly attached on the back. These don't have that extra thing on the back on either of the liftgate speakers. Just go to Crutchfield or ____ or scrounge eBay or the parts yards? Anyone found a good cheap replacement?

LX or LC? Year?

Can you test the removed speaker? Sometimes (often) buzzing is caused by loose/broken mounting or by loose/broken panel parts nearby.

08 LC. Everything around it is rock solid, nothing flapping about and it was not loose. I work in an audio field so I know the driver is faulty. Crutchfield, etc give me a bunch of universal 4” choices so I need to pull a generic 4" from one of my home speakers to see how it might fit. The OEM driver is actually less than 4" dia. but has all that extra housing for mounting it.

This driver from one of my hifi speakers, while pretty deep, actually fits in the hole ok but the tabs don't line up exactly. Most of the universal replacements out there have more slotted looking mounting tabs that would probably line up better. My FIL has a stash of drivers he's not using that I am going to scope out, other than that, finding a reasonably priced OEM replacement seems a lot more challenging. I like the free option myself :)

Just be sure your replacement is the same impedance as the OEM - these LandCruiser speakers tend to be very low impedance.

Yeah, the Crutchfield options are all 4ohm. I'm too lazy right now to check the OEM, but does that sound right?

I'm thinking 1-2 Ohm, but I'm too lazy to search...

I've looked a little bit at other online retailers that match based on make/model/year and the majority of them spec out to 4ohm.

@gaijin is likely correct, but I'm not sure about the '08. I had to replace the rear passenger inner door card on my '17 LC (dog damage) and while i had it apart, I measured the OEM JBL door drivers at 2 ohm. Since you work in an audio field, you know how to measure the stock driver you removed. It's possible the voice coil is damaged/shorted out, but might it might give you some idea of the resistance.

Thanks. I measured the OEM impedance as well @ 2.2ohm, so that's the factory spec. My FIL just gave me a pair of 4" HiFi speakers from the 80s which are 8ohm so they're going to be quieter. More in a bit.

The stock speaker for an 08 should be 86160-0WK70

I hope the OEM amp doesn't freak out with the 8 Ohm load...

The 8ohm drivers are not really going to work fitment wise, so back to square one. I am trying to keep/use the existing mounting bracket so it's looking more and more like I either have to shell out $130ish for a new speaker or roll the dice on a used one. TBH, with the one speaker disconnected I can't really hear much of a difference when driving so part of me is like 'screw it'.

No amp should freak out, a speaker with a higher impedance than spec will just be quieter. I just put in some old Radio Shack speakers I found at the thrift store today. They are 8 ohm but the right size so I didn't have to drill into the mounting bracket or anything. They're more a full-range design, slightly less volume, heavier because they had bigger magnets, whereas the OEM speakers back there were pretty bright/harsh sounding. I'll see if I can sell the enclosures, which are still decent, so maybe I'll break even. Total cost = $10.91 vs. $60-100+ for a used unknown quantity OEM speaker off eBay; the cheapest new one I found online was $124.
