I’m soon going to drop my LC100 (FZJ100L - GNMNKV) in a garage to swap the rear door from LUB to SOB + mount a OEM spare wheel carrier, I’m currently studying the plan by marking all the parts and codes of them I need to achieve the cleanest job ever, I don’t know if someone has ever done it in this community yet for a LC100 but we can discuss it here for now.

here are some pictures of the parts of a SOB frame I find very important to even make this possible.

So I guess the pictures show how both rear fenders have brackets which means there is holes that don’t exist in my fenders, I may buy new fenders to make it the cleanest and might not, will keep you guys updated once I drop the car there, I’m interested on what you guys think.

There was a guy who did this, but literally imported the back 1/3 of a barn door 100. Then he chopped and welded it to his. I’ll try to dig up the post.

Wtf that sounds crazy hahaha!

I found the post, but all pictures have been deleted for some reason. The truck was sold after he completed the work.
@Dilspec - can you post any pics from your barn door journey?

I sold the truck a year after the project was done. I didn’t chop the back half of my 100. The donor pillar was used for measurements & to achieve the cleanest transition.

At a high level tailgate hinges were removed, welded nuts inside and bolted the doors up. There was some welding/fab work for the drip rail & bottom strikers. Final step is adjusting the doors so they close properly using factory shims.

Here’s some pictures of the process.

This is a cool project for sure BUT someone educate me....Why would you want some swing out doors that serve no purpose compared to the original setup which provide you with a seat, table, and sun block shade lol

I generally prefer the tailgate but the barn doors do allow easy access to the trunk while have a swing out tire carrier. If pop top camper or rear bench seats, barn doors would be the way to go too.

A lot of folks with barn doors to complain of dust ingress though. They don't seal as well as the tailgate.

Sorry, I couldn’t recall 100% how you achieved it. I just knew that it had been done, and done very well might I add.

With jump seats in the back it makes a lot of sense. Otherwise, tailgate all day every day.

thats very cool to see and you did some high quality work there ngl, but did you face problem with any sounds, like air or anything? and did you ever think about buying the OEM side reinforcements that should be inside both rear side panels, or it wasn’t worth it because they are kinda pricy?

Secondly it seems like you decided to cut the lower bridge for the two locks the stopper and striker, and replace it with a one from the original body you took the barn door from, which means you couldn’t just drill?

For me because I always wanted a STD, here in Qatar it’s actually worth more than GX and especially a 98, 99 ones are very rare and expensive, it’s hard to find one that doesn’t have rust or the whole roof is destroyed because someone flipped it before, the simpler the LC for me the better it is, and SOB just looks cooler and simpler, all of the STD in Qatar come with SOB don’t have automatic windows, and no rear AC, no sunroof and no sensors, and no side stripes, black grille, and some come with a bench seat but has the gear stick kinda low because the hand is not going to be high, gray interior and 3 spoke steering, they all come with 1FZFE Gasoline, and ofc all of them are MTM expect some of the older police ones that had ATM.

Bonus info that I’m not sure about but correct me if I’m wrong xD, 98, 99 had yellow lights for the Meter instead of blue just like my car because mine is a 01.

This is how my LC looks like now.
