My goals:

  • 0"-2" of lift- front & rear
  • Soft, supple ride - I'll be putting clients in this on an almost daily basis - Comfort is huge

Do the 861/862 stock replacement coils work the same on the 81 as they do on the 80? Which shocks would folks recommend? Would a progressive shock (King/Fox) be best for soaking up the low speed maneuvers, or a would digressive shocks (Icon/Bilstein) be best for smoothing out the highspeed stuff? Looking forward to your input, thanks!

Iv got 2" lift ome coils and king shocks, the ride is awesome on rough roads, around town they are firmer then a ome shock however nothing to complain about.

I ran the 861/862 springs with stock shocks on my last HDJ, and they were great. Still ride nice, but way less body roll and pitching around, much better road manners than stock.

1/2-3/4" after settling, not a lot, but the transformation in handling was huge.

Did you ever have a chance to resolve the increased dartiness in steering after install? I read your thread.

Hmm, it was long enough ago that I don't really remember specifics of the "dartiness" complaint, I just remember an overall huge increase in ride and handling. It's not really enough lift that you should need camber correction, I was likely just being very picky.

Mine was "darty" and annoying to drive on the highway until I installed the caster correction.

I'm not sure what number my springs are, but they are OME heavy fronts and medium rears. I'm happy with the setup.
