I'm afraid the spacers will wear out quickly. I think i'm going w/ the lifted springs...any suggestions on brands?

Spacers will last a lifetime. No worries.

If you want a STOCK ride (what you said) then don't listen to the others.

If you think you might want to add on wheeling gear later then maybe you should listen to them.

Bottom line...adding a true lift will change your ride. You might like it and you might not. If you want a stock ride add SPACERS and save your cash. IF...IF...IF...later you want a true lift then you're out LITTLE bucks for the spacer add-on.

I'm in the same boat as the op and I'm enjoying this exchange.

inexpensive lift

I also have cranked the torsion bars and added 30 mm trim packers and got a nice and easy 1" + lift that rides nice. Then I added 295-70-18's (the tire label said 35" tires although they are a bit less than 34.5) and now I'm feeling the need for more lift (it still looks low - although it's a few inches taller than it was). So, the tires make a big difference in it's actual height and the perception of it's height.

I think that aeshetically speaking, a 1" lift looks good for 33's, but more tire needs more height. (this is based exclusively on looks since I'm too anal to scratch my paint off-road (poser-cough-cough))... altough I think off-road rubbing issues pretty much mirror this.

Here's a pic of mine with the Tundra 18's and NTG 295/70-18's (tbar cranked and 30 mm rear spacers). I'm itchin' for a bit more height. My first pic upload.. hope this works.

I'm telling you, this lift thing is an incurable disease. Chances are that you're due for new shocks anyways. Going the cheap route you do the following:

Spacers - $50.00
OEM shocks (eBay) - $300

Total - $350

You just got a 1" lift!!! Pat yourself on the back and act like you are content with your decision.

3 months go by and you find yourself digging through all the build threads, lusting after the jonharis, farinvail, Wildsmith, Loud and Spressoman cruisers in the pic thread, and bookmarking the JTs, ACC, ARB, Slee, Bump-it Offroad & Warn websites. You are always going out to the driveway to make sure that the BFG 33s look "proportional" and that the rake is "more level". Your CV boots are now on the "must check weekly" list b/c you have been over analyzing the negative post-OEM-TB-lift threads and the rationale behind the diff drop makes perfect sense to you. You have 2 or 3 other Mudder's numbers in your phone and you guys are always swappin' pictures, asking each other this and that, making fun of L Shocks and people who have an affinity for painting D-shackles in neon colors for "visibility" reasons, etc. At month 4 you are starting to scrape your front and rear bumpers on obstacles and you are getting worried about damaging your rocker panels but you console your self in the fact that the last email you got from White Knuckle Offroad says that your sliders will be shipped in 2 weeks. By now you are completely used to the BFGs and you can't help but admire all the rigs on the site with 35" MTs. When you think about it, you can't really remember what the Michelins looked like b/c you had them off the truck the day after the first post-LC-purchase paycheck. Oh yeah, you feel weird b/c you had a dream where you were Fishy, leading an outback expedition in your higher-than-everyone's solid front axle turbo diesel....and that you know what a 105 is.

Right about now that OME shock/spring/torsion bar/diff drop kit is looking GOOOOOOOOOD! For the 20th time, you slowly go over all 6,752 pages of the pic thread taking note of exactly what your dream build consists of and how you would have done so and so's build this way or that way. Your friends think your ride looks good and you smile at them but deep down inside you know that you are living a $50 spacer lie. Every time another 100 pulls up by you at a stop light you eye it up and down and try to figure out if you have a "true" inch over it while at the same time trying not to look like a mentally disturbed stalker. Finally, you wake up on the morning of the 6 month anniversary of your "lift" and break down in uncontrollable sobbing. You curse the pfran42 name as you open your laptop while eating your Cheerios and select the Slee bookmark on your browser. You have priced the individual components to a lift kit so you know that you are getting a good deal but you are a little ticked off because you are about 30 seconds away from being $1425 out of pocket when you know good and well that it could have been $1075. As your cat decides it wants to take a nap on your keyboard and muscles in between your typing hands, you are further angered by the fact that the $350 would have covered a solid chunk of the front bumper you've been eyeing. You are a little annoyed that you have to make a call to order your lift instead of just clicking a button but it is a small price to pay compared to the anguish that has been tearing at your soul for the last three weeks. You make the call, have a pleasant talk with Christo, pass along your credit card information and a sudden wave of calm passes over you as you hit the end button on your phone. You are comforted by the fact that the lift will look good with 33s but should you decide to go bigger, it will accommodate 35s as well. You immediately text your Mud buddies informing them that your ride is gonna look and ride so bad ass in a few days and if you can borrow a floor jack so that you do the job yourself and get some quality wrench time in with your Hundy.

All is well with the world as you leave (a bit late) for work...That is except for the little stinging pain that comes 15 minutes into the drive...You curse the pfran42 name again as you wince bitterly.

Get the lift.

Awesome... Then you realize that you really can't "lift" the 100 in the sense of adding extra travel without four-figure mods (only move its neutral point within the existing travel), and that your newly lifted truck, while looking cool, rides like crap without three grand worth of extra weight in mods, and that OEM shocks are only $130 bucks for four (tax included) and your bank account and kidneys thank Rob for saving you tons of cash while still comfortably running 33's and saving your CV's. Thankyouverymuch...

I see, Mr. pfran, that you are a student of life, learning the ways of universe by mere observation and introspection. Nail on the head, buddy.

One interesting thing about the 100 that I'm sure has been mentioned before is that it is a deceptively large SUV. It must be the proportions of it, but it doesn't look so dern big until you either see it next to another vehicle or get up close to it. All I know is that with my 30 mm lift and the 295's, my running boards (I know, but they're good for tehe 4-year old) are 14.5 inches off the pavement - nice.

I agree about the deceptively large size. How's the North side of Indy these days? I went to college about an hour up 65.

That was good, pfran42...freaking funny!

100 Series Lift Springs

In the 2" lift range, OME or TJM. Both are cost effective.

That tells us EXACTLY what you want. What you don't want are lift kits, new shocks a stiffer ride, etc. DON'T do that.

Simply add a 50mm coil spacer in the back then re-adjust the t-bars to match. 2" up, cheap, 95% OEM ride. Enjoy!

In your buildup documentation you say that you were talked out of using factory t-bars, but here you say to go with it. Which is it?
