Mike has me thinking about repros. I've got an idea for making the license light lens / cover reasonably. Who's missing either the light, or the whole deal?

Jim did I email you that picture? Or was that back from the auction on Ebay. The outside of that 25 is really sweet. Original paint no bondo, pintle hook trailer light socket. Just don't look on the inside. Just too bad I'm going to have to cut up another vehicle to replace the floor.

Hard to tell from the photo, but would those same (or similar) two parts work on the tailgate mounted bracket/light system (but with the light being on top)?

I tried to cobble a 40 bracket/light into a 25 setup.....didn't like the look and figured it would be better to just make one from scratch (or early original front license brackets but they've been hard to come by).

Jim, I'd be interested in buying one of these brackets for the 1962 FJ40 softtop model that I've got, if you make any.

Anybody know what the OEM color of the license plate bracket and/or license light is supposed to be? Black or same color as body?

The whole bracket was painted body color. Just like about everything else on this vehicles:rolleyes:. The front bumper was about the only thing Toyota decided to paint different, it was painted pewter.

Got it. Thanks, John. :)

What about the bumperettes and hood latches? Black, body color or pewter?

When in doubt paint it the body color. The picture of the tail end of my 61 is still the OEM paint. The hood latches were painted grey too.

Just to bring this tread back up to the top and keep Jim looking into this I have a idea on the licenes plate bracket and posting it here. Since I keep finding more original parts for the white one I have I decided to put a original license plate bracket instead of trading out the tailgate with one from a FJ40 with the license mounted to it. The main problem with the stock license plate location is every time you drive by a branch it want to tear your license off. I don't know about you but everyone I have is bent from being hit. So I'm thinking of making a bracket that would mount to the license plate bracket that would fill in the space between the corner of the tub and the license plate. Probably put a rubber strip where it would ride on the tub. Does anybody have any other ideas?

John

Other ideas? When I'm done with mine I won't be driving near any trees. :D

So if I get one of the newer series cruiser is this what will happen to me? Only use on paved roads. The grey one is going get the full restore while the white gets used off road. . I plan on restoring it close to original but not so much as not be able to use it. Spot welds fill in, rollcage installed. The floor is solid but wavey from years of use on a ranch. Besides with a header and torsen diffs why not use it? Maybe get one of those fancy valve covers. Maybe need a pink panties Lexus to tow it around with.

John

Should I leave the backs solid or open them up like the originals? Just asking because the original is pretty flimsy and this solid back is about twice as stiff before opening it up.

Heck, I'd leave it solid for all the strength you can get. With a license plate on there, nobody's going to see the backside anyway. ;)
