HGB,
He is letting me borrow it to pull IR codes and then return it. I got excited too.

Thanks. It’s wild how pricy they are. Is the thought that we will be able to use a universal remote by using the IR codes?

Yes. I can include some instructions on that once I capture the IR codes.

The 2013-2015 remote is PN 86170-60120 and you can get it for $156 - I had it bookmarked while I am sorting through a baseline of my LX, but I'm game to figure out a universal approach. Would be great if we can find something that fits in the recessed spot of the arm rest.

Looks like the 2008-2011 is PN 86170-50270 and is $314

anyone here not have the rear entertainment and added some type of rear entertainment? Been looking into that for my next project for those long roadtrips.

I will try and find a universal that fits

OK. Getting data from the remote, so it isn't proprietary. I will try and get them all captured this weekend. I will upload them to a couple of places and on this site.

I will try and find a programmable remote that will work too, but now that I have a remote I probably will only test on one of my remotes to make sure the codes themselves work.

Power on Command FYI

Nice work. Are you using the model that has the L/R switch at the top? I'm curious if the codes are completely different between the two sides. I'm guessing they are. Could potentially have two remotes, but man would that open the door for a battle in the back seat...

I am not using a remote with the switch. I am curious about the L/R switch, but I tested the LC remote without it and it just controlled both units. I think for this moment I am going to get all the codes and find a couple of ways to put them on remotes (see next reply) and then go back and grab the details like L/R switch.

If someone doesn't mind me having their L/R remote gone for an extended period of time then I can add it to the list, but I don't know when I will get to it atm.

Ideally I would like an Apple TV with a pair of AirPods since with TvOS 14 you can do audio sharing... of course this is a pricey option since you need a gen 4 Apple TV modded for 12volts and a pair of AirPods

REMOTE CONTROL OPTIONS
So there are a few distinct options when it comes to remotes on this project and it really depends on the scenario you find yourself in. Please weigh in so I can help tailor this to the community.

1. You have a remote, but want to make a backup
2. You don't have a remote and need to program one from scratch just to get RE to function
3. You are trying to go deeper into automating your car and you want something capable of controlling anything (lights, switches, etc.)

1. I think nearly any programmable remote would work here. I would probably tend towards a Logitech learning remote (Harmon 650 or similar). This case is probably obvious, but if you do it before you lose the remote, you can save yourself some big bucks. I am looking for a remote that uses an open database so I can store the codes I have pulled. That would solve problems for 1 & 2.

2. There are plenty of remotes that can pull data from a database. However none currently have Lexus codes and I don't see any way to submit them currently. I will dig deeper once I have a complete set and maybe they will add them. This leaves needing to A) buy an IR blaster (not cheap) and a learning remote (probably more expensive than a used remote). I have the IR blaster so this isn't a bad option for me. I think it is damn useful in my Man Cave, so maybe that helps soften the blow for some people. Or B) Finding a remote that you can manually upload the IR Codes to. So far I am striking out on the search, but I have a few leads. This option may end up costing more than a used Lexus remote too. It kinda bleeds into option 3 so if you are planning to do more and want to add any other custom codes or database codes this could still be a viable option.

3. Full Tech Option. This would get into a full automation type set up that would have a much more time, talent and treasure poured into it. Judging by some of the builds I have seen on here I am sure this isn't in crazy land. I think you could easily get a raspberry pi or Logitech Hub and make a much smarter vehicle. I think you could locate a Pi centrally and use IR emitters to allow it to control anything you could think of putting into your car. The Pi's are cheap ($40) and the rest of the set up to control RE would be maybe another $60. The possibilities are really endless on this front because you just put a computer in your car that can be controlled remotely. This is really where I think I will end up (depending on how open and responsive the Tesla style set ups become). For now I will put this in the long term project category.

I think it is totally doable, but at that point I am upgrading those s***ty screens. I would add a HDMI splitter and run it to two new HD screens.

This is interesting for sure. Sometime last year I debated on changing my rear DVD screens for a 2013 to a 2017 thinking they are a better and also because my kids broke one. After looking at pricing, I was floored and decided to look around for a cheaper and upgraded screen with higher resolution. I also bought a USB to RCA thinking that I would be able to use my iPhone to play movies with out success. It would be great if somebody can figure it out a cheaper alternative to the Sh*%y screen.

Also on another note, any of you have found a way to get apple and android car play in your vehicles? I have been eyeing the grom audio system for a couple of weeks and wondering if they are still having issues or they have manage to solve them. Much thanks to all the smarter people in here :-).

Hi guys ,
Have a 2009 lc150 with the screen in the roof , no remote.
I did find on here someone upload a file to be downloaded on to a universal remote,
I couldn't get my hands on the same one but it does have a USB connection.it also has lexus TV files but they are not mapped.
So still struggling along

Hey. I can upload the remote codes. I don't have a 2009, but I imagine the codes are the same. Let me know if you still need them.

Yes ,would be that would be amazing i have a "superior freedom" remote which i thought may work the same as the "all for one" as it has usb connectivity.the "all for one" with usb seems to be as rare as the original toyota one.
