That's still lame as s***.

Grom sucks, I have one.

Interested to hear why? I have them installed in 4 of my cars and they all work as intended without issue. 2001 LS430, 2005 LS430, 2007 LS460, 2007 GX470.

Music streaming, waze/google maps through the OEM navigation screen, voice navigation are the reasons I bought them.

I'm sorry you gave them that much of your money. One was enough for me.

My main issue, other than it being overpriced junk from China, is the unreliable connection to my phone. I get screen blackouts (while OEM nav screens work fine), glitchy connections, apps frequently reset themselves (lose target location). Its also a pain to update. While in active navigation, Google maps screen will just freeze and I miss my turn because of it. Happens regularly.

I use Carplay on rental cars, my Prius, etc. all the time and I do not have these problems. Cars with OEM carplay will be better... sure... but I have a similar "Magic box from China" device made by "carabc" in my Prius. It was $180 and works way better than my ~$600 Grom unit.

The most positive thing I can say about Grom is that it is the least terrible of the options I have tried for the GX. It integrates with the OEM backup camera most of the time, and retains the (albeit s***ty) OEM screen which is very low res... but doesn't blind you with glare which is more important to me.
