Does any ony have real world experience with the lewis chainsaw powered winch. See http://www.lewiswinch.com/. A friend of mine had one and used it to recover a few vehicles but I never got to see it in action. He loved it because it was portable and different. I'm looking for objective experience.

I have a model that was built in the late 80's, It doesnt have the cable set up but has a capstan instead, for use in rope rescues, I used it for back country recovery's and rescues, although I can say it does work, I was never very impressed, obviously heavy as hell to carry on your back along with all the other recovery gear needed, though that wouldnt matter hauling it in you LC, you need to run the RPM's at the top of the scale to get any kind of line speed, then you cant frigging hear, it's a 2 stroke engine so it whines pretty loud, you will need to carry hardware, biners, chain, rope whatever just to make it secure enough to recover a vehicle, you have to stand over it, which puts you in a bad place should something go wrong, you have to make room for it in your already tight space in a 40, personally, I wouldnt buy it for Vehicle recovery, they do come in handy on hunting trips, if you drop something in an area you just cant get your truck to with a permanent mounted winch, you can carry the portable with some anchor hdw and haul the carcass up, spend the money on a Warn, I run an 8074, 150' of wire rope, now you can run synthetic, precursor to the 8274, mount it on your rig and never look back.
