hi folks, so i've searched and searched and really couldn't find a decent thread on how to do a proper camo job. or is camo like not in style anymore?! just pondering the idea of doin an urban blue/charcoal blue/grey/light blue camo scheme with rattle cans (krylon or rustoleum). it's for a bush rig anyway, and i just thought it might be fun to give it a go after i fix some minor holes/dents with either welding 16 gauge steel or a pop rivet job...doesn't have to be pretty.

i searched on youtube and it's all guys camo painting their guns!

but i saw this how to vid and really liked the detail in the process and thought about doin the same on a larger scale.. with 4 colors
How to Paint Winter Camouflage - YouTube

and just free handing the patterns with that line tape and filling the inside with blue painters tape. similar process as above, but w/out the premade stensils.. bumpers, grill, roll bar will all remain black.

b/c it'll be a matt finish and i don't care if it rashes, will just touch up, should i just sand the rig down to bear metal the using self etching primer, a couple coats, and then just givin a go with the rattle cans?! so a flat or maybe satin finish and no clearcoat.

hope anyone can chime in. the last time i did body work/paint was on my gti rabbit in highschool...a loong time ago! this'll be a low budget job.

i'm kinda diggin the charcoal blue/grey'ish patterns with the bigger blobs...

anyone got some pics of their camo'ed cruisers to share?

I've considered doing this on my 62, but it's still in good shape body and paint-wise so I don't want to ruin it. If I were to get to the point that I get alot of dents and scrapes on the sheet metal, I might reconsider going this route. It'd be a LOT harder to do on a 55 or newer than a 40 or 45 though.

Edit: just noticed you have a 40. I say if you want to do it, go for it. Find a scheme that you want and hook it up. Make sure you prep it good though, if you're concerned about keeping a rust-free rig.

thanks spook! yeah, it's a bush truck and i can't see it costing more than a couple hundred bucks worth of tape/sandpaper/primer/paint and some labour. i plan on re bedlining the floors and maybe givin the frame a coat of some rust paint.

i'll be doing my 40 in multicam in the next month or so depending on when i finish another big project.
I'll be using krylon camo and some other flat colors in rattle cans.

Practice on some big pieces of cardboard to see if you want to tape and freehand or use stencils.

yeah, i think i'm set on taping for definite lines instead of the blending/blurring effect b/w colors. but man, other flat colors are tough to find at the local store, they're all the krylon camo (brown/green/beige/black combo) and the other brands which i might use also come in similar shades (or just flat black or white!). nothin against it, just tryin to be different...will keep searchin the isles..

how about that 2 in one primer/paint combo that just goes directly on? then again, not much color options..
