Picking up from an old thread: My Saginaw Power Steering Swap - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/my-saginaw-power-steering-swap.273969/page-6
Ordered all this custom stuff Sunday Sept 29 2024.. and it was at my door Friday Oct 4, 2024.. amazing.
Unit was Stamped with build date of Oct 1, 2024 and requested speck of 16:1 35#.
Got it plumbed and loaded.. just waiting on new pulley. Better pictures and review to come, only so many hours in a day.. stuff looks solid!
My fj40 has done many things and is a beast of it's owners. My experiences are unique to the shape of the rig.
Backstory:
I got it around 2001 and did a decent frame off save-build(link in bio). Did lots of trashing and modifications. After switching to Saginaw steering with a junk yard box (2005?), it was much better than the stiff, sloppy stock steering. That worked for many years but became twitchy at highway speeds. For lack of pick a part steering boxes I went down a long path of trying to get a cheep replacement.. . I bought an ARG progressive steering box from summit(not cheep). 2015.. While it was smooth and a good unit it was still too fast of steering... I changed the rear valve on the back of the pump to slow it down.. a little better.. but still not the best while on long travels. but livable.. 2022 while trying to "save money" I tired the Cardone rebuilds from Advance Auto Parts.. all the 4-4.25 Lock to locks were 3. Then I tried SpeedWays new 4-4.25 Lock to lock boxes... the inside spline shattered and the unit is tiny with a lower fluid capacity. What a waste of money. Now onto what I think is where I should of started back at 2015.
