Replacing my tail lights with LED's and moving them onto the rear quarters.

Need input on which style, flange or grommet mount .... pros and cons to both. Surface mounts are out of the question.

Pics are for reference only. I'm leaning toward the grommet mount style think'n if I back into something they'll have more give and less prone to breakage.

Thanks,

I have, and prefer the grommet style, as if they get into a treebranch/rock, dirt berm etc... they tend to push in and not break. All you do is push it back into the grommet. Just my opinion and experience with them. Also I have them in the rear bumper, not the body tub though.

There are several internet distributors. Truck stops are good places, NAPA and other parts store. I actually got mine at Bass Pro Shops in the boating section. Expect on average $20 give or take for LED versions. Regualr bulb type are much cheaper.

grommet for the same reason as mentioned above, then the security locks to keep them from disappearing.

they are stainless trim that bolts on and covers the grommet, allowing the light to pop in, but not out.

I too put new ones in the bumper of my '66 ,gromet style, with brackets, got both (lights/brackets from nappa)

can e mail pics if wanted?

I have grommet on my work truck.....great if you are backing up the mountian and get into the mud a little...just pushes the light right through a little and doesn't break. Also has a little better look.

A good place to get them is at truck stops....however don't go inside..that's where the dirty truckers are, including me....the best place to find them is out in the parking lot....could be a good reason why you wouldn't want the grommet style.......
