Ours may not be as bright as the newer versions George makes but we paid a LOT less than $30ea. :D

-B-
True.

I have a newer set in the wife's 80. Paid more for those than I did for the ones in mine :)

Still glad to have 'em.

I'd have to disagree (bias here...) - they are most definitely brighter than the stock incandescent bulbs. The incandescents are yellow and the LEDs are white.

Of course it's all a matter of opinion - also, the modules I made/sold >1.5years ago are not as bright as the ones after that. This is due to sourcing a brighter binned version of the same Luxeon LED.

Another advantage (esp. in oz) that I've seen is that the LEDs attract a LOT less bugs at night - especially compared to fluoros.

The Oz site is a mate that just resells them to save me shipping to oz, especially for folk that want to pay by cheque etc. I ship him a batch (just sent some last week) every so often and then he sells over there. You can still order from me - whatever...

Finally, since first making them just over 3 years ago, I've shipped just on 800 of them and have only had one pair returned (from a guy with a lexus car that didn't like the 'tint'). To those that have emailed me and are undecided I've always offered a refund policy.

cheers,
george.

Thanks for that George nice to know that he has some in stock will be ordering very soon..

Anyone done the 3rd Dome Mod? I guess some non US rigs have a 3rd dome, near the tailgate, where i would need it!

Thanks

Yep its been done by several.

A simple search ought to bring it up.

If the George's ones aren't as bright what other ones are available.

i found an OZ site that sells them and is linked to George's site so I assume they are the same light.

Come on up if you want to check them out. They really are incredible. My wife and I are heading to the Gold Coast in a few weeks too if that's closer to you than Kings Beach.

tried multiple searches and only found one small writeup:

i am just curious what others have done as well, i guess there are a few versions of the dome that can be used

any more?

thanks

The difference is night and day with these lights.

It reminds me a lot of seeing the light from headlights of just your average car.....say a stock Camry, and then the lights from a high end BMW.

The only thing now is that I want to swap out ALL of the interior dome, door, and mirror lights after I was lucky enough to win the recent giveaway.

great things about the leds...
low on electricity.
super easy and quick to install.( took me about 15 mins to change every interior led)
super easy to uninstall,( if you dont like them).
inexpensive.
brighter then stock.
you can also get differnet colors for the doors.

Here is another link on the cargo area dome light install with George's LED

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=43073

I have two of George's original batch of LED dome lights. When I installed the cargo area light, I order another LED from George. The newer LED light was much brighter than the older ones. I eneded up putting the old LED light in the cargo area.

A inexpensive alterntive for brighter interior light is to replace the stock interior bulb 3022(5w) with 3175 (10w). Adding foil tape on the back of the light assembly would also make the light brighter. I've done both of these mods before upgrading to George's LEDs.

While everyone intuitively knows that these must use less power than the incandescent bulbs, I haven't seen any actual power consumption info. I just installed the dome lights, so I took an extra minuite with an ammeter and did a before and after power measurement.

With the old incandescent, I measured .71 amps, which equates to about 8.5 watts at 12 volts. The bulb says 10 watts at the base, and the difference is probably due to a voltage drop at the courtesy light switch or somewhere else in the circuit.

With the new LED, I measured .11 amps, which equates to about 1.32 watts.

This means the led's use less than 1/6th the power (15.5%) used by the incandescent, even though they produce more light.

Not bad...

Tom

Tech, I did some spec only (no direct measurement) comparisons in this thread, the power consumption is listed on Georges site

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=20876

came up with aprox 1/10 for the 4 doors and 2 domes.

cpmaring domes alone is just under 1/6 the current.

Raven, do they still sell the door leds? went to the site you listed and couldn't find the ones you bought.

RavenTai - The WLED 5's have the led's arranged for more uniform light output, since led's tend to be very directional.

BTW - Others may be interested in this led that I bought a few months ago:

I wanted some led domes on the CHEAP, so I bought some of these:

They were like $13 bucks for a pair, shipped. Not as deluxe as George's excellent product, but achieve the goals of brighter than stock and low current draw. They have a slight blue tint to them like the WLED 5's from superbrightleds. Did I mention they were cheap? I've got a 3rd dome lamp (thanks RavenTai!) and a 3rd one of these led's for the cargo area. Just gotta wait for warmer temps so I don't crack any plastic trim performing the install.

Can we still get in on the group buy price??

If not, can someone please post a link to gerges site?

I thought that people making post that these LED's were GREAT were overstating things, but they're not.

I just loaded up in the dark for a trip tomorrow, and it was amazing how much better I could see with the new LED lights. I also knew I didn't have to worry about how long I kept the lights burning. The light's a bit more harsh, but it's completely worth it. Everyone should have these.

I think your on drugs! :D

The George LED's are WAYY brighter then stock! (yes, even the domes) Everyone that sees mine, comments on them!

One of my favorite mods!

Now, i just have to install on the the rearmost cargo area and i will be in business!

Anyone done the 3rd Dome Mod? I guess some non US rigs have a 3rd dome, near the tailgate, where i would need it!

Thanks
I may be able to email you the pics I took while I put in the cargo area light, I got the light from Dan and it is differant than the other three lights. real easy install and in my 94 the wires were already there for it and there is a flat area on the metal shaped for the light. If I can put one in anyone can. It turns on manualy, with the back hatch and IIRC the doors. I am limited on what I can do with my computer at home and work but I do think that I can email pics. PM me if you want me to try. I like my cargo light:grinpimp:
