Working to bring a neglected ‘85 FJ60 back to life. Currently in the process of de-smogging and replacing the cooling system. I have no idea when the coolant was replaced before I bought the truck a few years ago, but it generally looks OK (the dirt you see was already in the bucket before I drained the coolant)

Radiator was replaced at some point but no record of when. It is a CSF and looks crappy and old, so I suspect 20 years ago or so.

What concerns me is this milky looking junk in the bottom of the radiator…It is not present anywhere else in the system…yet.

Thoughts?

I should note that I’ve been driving this truck around town here and there for 3 years and never had high coolant temps (based on the semi-reliable dash gauge).

I wouldn't worry yet. I guess I would fill up the system with water and flush it some, drain it, and then refill with new coolant. Remove the block drain at each step. I presume the engine oil shows no signs of water contamination?

Thanks. No evidence of coolant in the engine oil, never any plumes of white smoke out the exhaust, etc.
