I've attached two images so I hope you can see them. I'm trying to
figure out where this leak is coming from. A little background...
It's a 91 FJ80 and I've already relpaced my oil pan gasket over 6
months ago and that area continues to stay dry, somewhat grimey but
dry. Now I was told to open my flywheel inspection plate and see if
there is oil inside there on the bolts and the flywheel. Well, no oil
on the flywheel, but there is oil on the bolts as the picture shows.
Oil continues to build up on the seam between the housings. The
picture showing the oil building on the seam is taken 5 minutes after
I wiped off the standing oil, so that shows you how fast it's
building. Those are from last night and it's already a nice drip this
morning. Oil only builds up around the seam from the 3 oclock bolt of
the housuing down and around to the 9 oclock bolt on the housing. No
where above this is there any oil noticable. I will also note that in
order to be completely sure, I had the engine bay and underside
hot-pressure washed last week to make sure I wasn't missing any small
leaks and this rear main seal area is the only place accumulating
oil.
Someone have any experience with what is going on here? What else can
I try to look for? If it is indeed a rear-main leak then I will have
to default this to a mechanic since I have no shop or tools of that
magnitude. Thoughts?
