Team,

I found today that my 3 week old clutch master cylinder is leaking from the firewall. I am out of town and the mechanic I had replace it is not open on the weekends. I've filled it back up with fluid, but I still don't get engagement of the clutch until I press it all the way to the floor. I'm guessing this is because of the air now allowed into the line. Any ideas what might be causing this? I had the slave and master replaced just two weeks ago.

Thanks.

The "new" MC is defective. Demand a free replacement.
There may be air in it, or the seals are shot, allowing hydro fluid to leak past the seal, preventing compression.

I don't have a manual to reference right now since I'm out of town, but I did notice that the two bolts attaching the MC to the firewall were threaded opposite of each other. Meaning, one nut is accessible from the engine firewall, and the other is accessible from the under-dash firewall side. Is that as-designed? Can't say I ever paid close attention to those nuts and bolts previous to having the MC replaced.

That's how those bolts are supposed to be. It really shouldn't leak from the bolts, it's probably coming from somewhere else and pooling up there. I guess I'd get in there with a good light and try to determine where exactly the fluid is leaking from. I'd also use something to wash or clean the fluid off the paint.

Just put on a aisin from napa, about $40 and 15 mins to put it on. My original was leaking out the boot inside, seals shot.

Sounds like the shop you took it to needs to make it right.

If you end up needing to fix it yourself before they reopen these may help....
